Westminster Police Shoot Suspect After He Charges at Officers With Metal Pole |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Westminster, California — On December 23, 2022, at approximately 10:59 p.m., Westminster Police received a call regarding a commercial burglary of a business located at 9253 Bolsa Avenue in the City of Westminster. The reporting party told WPD that a male subject, later identified as 30-year-old Khang Chi To wearing a gray shirt and armed with a metal pipe had smashed the front door and taken a drink from inside the business. At approximately 11:33 p.m., WPD received a call for service regarding an incident of vandalism at Imperial - Health & Beauty, a business located at 9196 Bolsa Avenue in the City of Westminster. Due to other priority calls for service, an officer was not immediately available for dispatch to either of the locations. On December 24, 2022, at approximately 12:28 a.m., Officer Dam was dispatched to the reported burglary.
Officer Doan began conducting an area check to locate the subject. Officer Doan observed To approximately a block away in the south alley of 9262 Bolsa Avenue, behind a retail and commercial business complex. Officer Doan exited his marked police vehicle and initially contacted To in the alley. To immediately began walking westbound and away from Officer Doan. Officer Doan followed on foot and repeatedly commanded To to stop, drop the pole, and sit down. To was argumentative and continued walking away from Officer Doan. Officer Doan requested additional units to respond for assistance. Officer Dam heard the request for assistance and responded. At approximately 12:58 a.m., Officer Dam arrived at the location, exited his marked vehicle, and joined Officer Doan. Both officers followed To westbound on the south sidewalk of Bolsa Avenue at Saigon.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., Officer Bouffard arrived at the location. Officer Bouffard immediately exited his marked patrol vehicle and joined Officer Doan and Officer Dam as they followed To on foot. At approximately 1:00 a.m., To stopped, fully turned toward the officers, grabbed the pole with both hands and raised it to shoulder level and behind his head similar to a baseball batter. Officer Doan immediately shouted for To to stop as To began to quickly advance toward Officer Dam and Officer Bouffard. To ignored Officer Doan's repeated commands to stop, and continued moving toward Officers Dam and Bouffard. As To closed to within a few feet of the officers and appeared to be preparing to swing the pole by "cocking" it back, Officer Doan fired his handgun five times. Simultaneously, Officer Dam deployed his TASER. To immediately dropped the weapon and fell to the ground.
As a result of the shooting, To sustained gunshot wounds to the face, chest, abdomen and right arm. To, who remained conscious and alert, was handcuffed. Officers then immediately began rendering medical aid. He was transported by Care Ambulance Service to UCIMC. To underwent successful surgery and survived his wounds. On December 29, 2022, WPD Detective Marcela Lopez and OCDA Investigator Thomas Toth went to the UCI Surgical Intensive Care Unit to interview To. To said on the night he was shot, a WPD officer was after him because he was holding a metal pole. When asked why he had a metal pole in his possession on that date, To said he was doing it for fun. On January 5, 2023, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Detective Lopez again went to UCIMC, where To had been medically cleared for release by UCIMC. To was arrested and transported to the WPD jail.

16-year-old Pulls Gun on Crowd on Florida Beach and Runs into Ocean To Escape Deputies |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Volusia County, Florida — On March 14, 2024, around 3:45 p.m., Volusia Sheriff's deputies were patrolling the area of the beach just north of Flagler Avenue when they heard a crowd yelling, then dispersing with people shouting “He has a gun!” Deputies ran toward the scene and saw the suspect, 16-year-old Felixander Solis-Guzman wielding a handgun. The deputies drew their firearms and advanced toward Felixander while ordering him to drop the gun. Instead, he took off, still holding the gun, running through crowds of people before heading into the ocean, and throwing the gun into the water along with a bag he was carrying. Felixander finally complied with commands, put his hands up and surrendered to deputies around 3:50 p.m. He was taken into custody without further incident.
There were no injuries reported during the incident. Deputies recovered both the gun and the bag from the water. The bag held 20 small plastic baggies of marijuana. Felixander was charged with 3 counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a person under 18, improper exhibition of a firearm, commission of a 2nd degree felony with a weapon, resisting a law enforcement officer, 2 counts of tampering with evidence, and sale of marijuana. In addition to his new charges, Felixander was also arrested on 7 active no-bond warrants out of Orange County, including robbery with a firearm and violation of his probation. He was taken to the Volusia Family Resource Center for processing before transport to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Kent Police Officers Shoot Suspect Who Attacked an Elderly Man With a Hatchet |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Federal Way, Washington — On December 21, 2023, at around 8:00 a.m. the 30-year-old suspect Paleti Anikesi Veniale followed a 71-year-old man around Town Square Park before running up behind him and striking him with a hatchet. Video of the attack was captured by park surveillance cameras. Prosecutors said Veniale struck the victim numerous times, including after he had fallen to the ground. Veniale then fled the scene with a hatchet. Federal Way Police obtained pictures of Veniale from Metro bus surveillance cameras shortly after the alleged attack and published them in the Federal Way bulletin, helping Kent police identify him. The victim was rushed to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries to the head, face, and chest. He is now listed in satisfactory condition at Harborview almost three months later.
On December 23, 2023, at around 9:30 a.m., Kent Police officers located Veniale in the area of 24800 Pacific Highway South (just south of Lowe’s and Dick’s Drive-In). Veniale ran from officers when they attempted to contact him. During the foot chase, Veniale pulled out a knife and reared it back in a position above his head to stab one of the officers. The officer falls to the ground and at that moment, both the officers fire at Veniale, who then drops the large knife he was holding over the officer. Officers began lifesaving efforts right away, which was taken over by firefighters and medics who arrived a short time later. Veniale was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition. Veniale was charged with attempted murder in the first degree. He is currently being held in King County Jail on a $1 million bond while awaiting his next court hearing, which is slated for June.

Fleeing Suspect Gets Shot As He Throws His Gun Away |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
American Canyon, California — On Thursday afternoon January 11, 2024, at approximately 3:15 PM, American Canyon Police Officers (ACPD) made a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation, in the area of southbound SR-29 and American Canyon Road. The driver failed to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued into Vallejo. Eventually, as the pursuit continued on Souza Way, the car’s tire blew near Gateway Drive. Multiple people ran from the vehicle. The car crashed into a fence. The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Demarea Vaughn Rogers III, of Vallejo, took off on foot with loaded handguns.
An American Canyon police officer identified as Officer Joshua Coleman gave Rogers multiple commands to drop the guns. He discarded one of the guns and continued to run with another gun. That is when he was shot twice by Officer Coleman, who immediately began rendering medical aid. Rogers suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting. Rogers was in possession of a .40 caliber pistol and an unregistered .40 Glock with a high-capacity magazine. He dropped the .40 caliber weapon as he exited the vehicle. Rogers pleaded no contest to carrying a loaded firearm and obstructing a peace officer on Feb. 21, according to court records. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 22.

Three Teenage Carjacking Suspects Lead Seattle Police on a High-Speed Chase |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Seattle, Washington — On December 19, 2023, shortly before 9:00 p.m., Seattle police dispatch received several calls about three attempted carjackings and a robbery. The suspects were described as three juvenile males in a gray SUV. The first attempted carjacking occurred in the 2800 block of Alki Avenue Southwest. A 38-year-old man unlocked his vehicle and while opening the car door, the suspects drove up in an SUV. Two male suspects exited the car and approached the victim. One suspect made a threat that he had a gun and demanded the man’s car. The victim locked his vehicle and ran to a nearby business to escape.
The suspects fled the scene shortly after. A short time later, the same suspects attempted to carjack a 37-year-old female on 59th Avenue Southwest. The woman was sitting in her car and one of the suspects knocked on the window and showed a gun. The suspects told the victim to get out of her car. She refused and drove to a safe location to call 911. Police arrived at Beach Drive Southwest to a reported robbery and attempted carjacking of a 52-year-old female and a male. During the incident, two cell phones and keys were stolen by the suspects. The female victim pointed at a gray Hyundai to police. The suspect’s car was identified, and a patrol car was able to get behind the vehicle as it recklessly sped away. Officers pursued the suspects eastbound onto the West Seattle Bridge.
Police on the westbound side of the bridge were able to successfully deploy spike strips to deflate the tires of the SUV. The car continued onto southbound Interstate Highway 5 and came to a stop at South Corgiat Drive and Ursula Place South. The three juveniles exited and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, two suspects were apprehended and with the assistance of King County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the third suspect was located and taken into custody. The Seattle Fire Department arrived and medically evaluated the juveniles. Police contacted the registered owner of the Hyundai and learned the vehicle was stolen. The two 14-year-old males and one 16-year-old male were arrested for investigation of robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police. They were booked into Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and family Justice Center.

Bodycam Videos Show IMPD Officers Exchange Gunfire With Armed Suspect During Traffic Stop |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Indianapolis, Indiana — On January 25, 2024, around 5:26 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers responded to the 2600 block of Brookside Parkway North Drive as part of an investigation to apprehend a convicted murderer. Officers with IMPD’s East District Violence Team tried to stop a vehicle to apprehend 48-year-old Raphael Nafees Dekemper, who was wanted on several active felony warrants. Dekemper’s warrants included possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm and invasion of privacy.
Dekemper was located in the 2500 block of East 16th Street and was seen leaving a house and getting back into the passenger seat of a 2006 Pontiac Vibe. A home security camera captured the traffic stop after the Pontiac came to a stop. An officer told the driver to turn the car off. Another officer told the passengers in the car to put their hands out the window. In the video, Dekemper could be seen exiting the vehicle and appearing to point his firearm and firing at police. Gunfire then rang out between the suspect and officers.
Dekemper was struck multiple times after three officers returned fire. Dekemper was later seen on the ground. Officers approached and used a ballistic shield for protection, and secured Dekemper’s firearm. IMPD provided medical aid until paramedics arrived. Dekemper was transported to Eskenazi Hospital, where he later died. The woman driving the Pontiac was taken into custody unharmed without incident. Dekemper spent more than 20 years in Indiana prisons for a murder committed in 1995 when he was just 17 years old. He got out on parole in 2017. His cousin, Tierra Johnson, said Dekemper told her he knew there was a warrant for his arrest but he was not going back to prison.

Deputies Shoot Man Who Charged At Them With a Machete inside a Southern California Supermarket |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Lancaster, California — On February 6, 2024, at 9:28 a.m., Lancaster Station deputies responded to a business in the 43500 block of 20th Street West, Lancaster, regarding a call of a business disturbance. The caller stated a male, armed with a machete, was at the location. The male was later identified as 38-year-old Jonathan Scott Foster of Lancaster. Deputies located Foster standing outside the front entrance to the business with a machete in his hand and an additional machete affixed to his waistband. He was given numerous commands to drop the machete but refused to comply. After several minutes Foster walked into the open business which was occupied by numerous customers. Deputies on scene fired a taser multiple times and launched several 40MM foam batons at Foster, but they had minimal effect.
After the deployment of a third less-lethal weapon attempt, Foster charged at deputy personnel while still armed with the machete and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Foster sustained several gunshot wounds to his upper and lower torso. Deputies rendered first aid until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics. Foster was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two machetes, approximately 24 inches in length, were recovered at the scene. There were no other people injured in the incident. During the investigation, investigators discovered that earlier in the day Foster burglarized a local gas station in the city of Lancaster. During the incident, Foster shattered the front glass door to the business and attacked a female employee with the machete. The victim suffered a severe laceration to her hand and was treated at a local hospital.

Chillicothe, Ohio — On Thursday, November 17, 2022, around 5:00 p.m., Ross County Sheriff's Deputy, Sgt. Eric Kocheran wasn't wearing a bullet-proof vest, and it was the end of his shift. Sgt. Paint St. and knocked on the door. Sgt. Kocheran went to the said door, opened it, and asked what Mitchell needed. Mitchell first told Sgt. Kocheran, he needed to get "more officers" there. Sgt. Kocheran again asked, what was going on. Mitchell stated, "Um, somebody said they were gonna hurt my family. They wanted me to hurt kids and I can't do it."
Dep. Kocheran said, "okay." Mitchell stated, "So, I gotta do this." Mitchell said that just as he pulled a firearm a firearm from his pocket. Mitchell manipulated the slide action of the weapon and fired a shot. Sgt. Kocheran had drawn his weapon and he too fired a shot. Both individuals fired multiple rounds. Both individuals were struck by projectiles/bullets and went to the ground. EMS was summoned and transported both individuals by squad to area hospitals. Ultimately Mitchell, after receiving medical care, had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Adena Hospital. Sgt. Kocheran was shot in the chest. The bullet hit his lung, bruised his heart, and went through his liver. Sgt. Kocheran, after several surgeries and an extensive hospital stay, was able to recover from his injuries.

Arizona Police Shoot Man After He Fled From His Arrest and Exchanged Gunfire With Officers |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Tucson, Arizona — On February 10, 2024, at 5:30 p.m., Marana police officers stopped 29-year-old Tobin Pico, who was driving a Jeep Cherokee, for traffic violations in the 4100 Block of West Ina Road. The officers suspected Pico was impaired, and a DUI investigation led them to arrest Pico on suspicion of aggravated DUI. As officers were placing Pico in handcuffs, he escaped and started fleeing southward over several traffic lanes. Officers quickly realized during the chase that Pico had a handgun. The video shows him firing the weapon while walking along the Canyon Del Oro river path as more officers converged on the area. That is when an MPD officer fired his rifle. Pico dropped to the ground but got up and continued running. The officers then exchanged fire with Pico and he was hit. Pico died at the scene despite life-saving efforts by the MPD and Northwest Fire. No officers or civilians were hurt during this shooting.

Dashcam Shows Thurston County Deputies Performing a PIT Maneuver on a Truck During a Wild Pursuit |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Thurston County, Washington — On March 6, 2024, at around 8:00 a.m., Thurston County deputies conducted a traffic stop off Rich Rd SE. The passenger exited the vehicle, and the driver, 29-year-old gave a false name. The driver fled, and deputies established reasonable suspicion for DUI and a pursuit was authorized. The truck fled through Lacey, and then onto the Chehalis Western trail at speeds of more than 60mph. Citizens on the trail were able to see and hear the lights and sirens and get out of the way. The truck then exited onto 26th Ave NE where a PIT maneuver was successful. The truck spun around into a mud field, then accelerated into reverse into a private driveway where he struck an unoccupied travel trailer. A deputy quickly pinned the truck in as it was still trying to flee. The driver was combative and refused to show his hands or surrender. The vehicle window was broken out and a taser was deployed as the driver had the truck in drive and the wheels spinning trying to flee.
The suspect was forcefully removed from the truck and detained. Drug paraphernalia was located in the truck. At the end of the pursuit, the suspect caused a low impact collision between two uninvolved motorists trying to get out of his way. Those victims are being evaluated, but appear to be okay. The driver had an active warrant out of Thurston Superior Court for attempting to elude, assault on law enforcement with a deadly weapon, and possession of a stolen vehicle. He has been arrested for new charges which include another attempt to elude and DUI narcotics. The vehicle the man was driving had extensive history with prior eluding as recent as last week where a different man who was a convicted felon and known to steal cars was arrested out of it in possession of a gun. That individual is already back out of TCSO jail despite having been booked 14 times in TCSO jail alone with numerous pending cases in Superior Court.

California Deputies Shoot Robbery Suspect Who Pulled Out a Shotgun |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Norwalk, California — On January 27, 2024, at 5:40 p.m., Norwalk Station deputies responded to a business in the 11000 block of Rosecrans Avenue, Norwalk, regarding a call of a robbery in progress. The caller stated a male, armed with a rifle, was stealing merchandise. The male was later identified as 38-year-old Jerald Hardcastle of Lake Elsinore. Deputies located Hardcastle standing between several parked vehicles in the rear parking lot of the business. He was given numerous commands to place his hands on his head and walk toward deputy personnel, but he refused to comply. After several minutes, deputies formed a tactical plan to approach Hardcastle. As deputies moved toward Hardcastle’s position, he retrieved a shotgun, faced the deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Hardcastle sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand. As deputies went to detain Hardcastle, he began to resist and was taken down to the ground and subsequently tased. Deputies rendered first aid until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics. Hardcastle was transported to a local hospital where he received medical treatment and was medically cleared for booking. It was later determined Hardcastle had entered the business and had pointed a shotgun at the employees. During the incident, Hardcastle stole U.S. currency from the register, and merchandise from the business. A loaded shotgun was recovered at the scene. In addition, Hardcastle was in possession of two assault rifles. There were no other persons injured in the incident.

(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Sioux City, Iowa — On Monday, January 8, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a Sioux City patrol officer was parked inside the parking garage located at the Hard Rock Casino. While the officer was parked, he observed a white truck driving towards him. The truck rammed his patrol vehicle head-on. The lone subject in the truck continued to exit the parking garage and was met with other responding officers. He drove directly at a second Sioux City patrol vehicle, ramming it head-on. The driver, later identified as 55-year-old Salvador Perez-Garcia of Sioux City, exited the truck swinging a length of chain with an affixed metal object in an aggressive, threatening manner. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and physically attempted to disarm him but were unsuccessful. Perez-Garcia refused to comply with the officers’ commands and continued to approach them swinging the object. Officers fired their duty weapons, striking him. The officers then performed lifesaving measures, but Perez-Garcia died at the scene.

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Bolton, Connecticut — On Friday, March 1, 2024, at approximately 2:15 p.m., the Connecticut State Police received a report that a party, later identified as 29-year-old Maxim Nowak, was experiencing a mental health crisis. Nowak’s family reported that Maxim was threatening to harm himself and others and was waving a knife. The State Police dispatched Trooper Wendy Garcia-Campos, Trooper Doug Bernier, and Trooper Brian Contenta to the residence. Upon arrival, the troopers encountered Nowak in the main hallway of the residence. He was armed with two knives. The troopers made several efforts to convince Nowak to drop the knives, but he refused. When Nowak raised the knife that he held in his left hand, Bernier deployed his Taser and Contenta discharged his firearm multiple times striking Nowak. State Troopers and EMS treated Nowak on scene, and he was transported to Hartford Hospital. He remains there under treatment.

Man Gets Shot by a Maryland Officer inside an Apartment After a Break-in Call |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Baltimore, Maryland — On February 1, 2024, at approximately 5:25 p.m., Officer Braxton Shelton with the Prince George’s County Police Department responded to an apartment in the 5100 block of Suitland Road in Suitland after receiving a 911 call from a resident for a report of a breaking and entering in-progress at their home. Upon arriving on scene, one officer entered the residence where he encountered 31-year-old Melvin Jay of Suitland and began giving him commands. During the encounter, the officer discharged his service weapon, striking Jay. Jay was pronounced dead on scene. No officers were injured. After the shot, Officer Shelton addresses another man in the apartment, asking him if he lived there and what he was doing there. The man said it was his cousin’s house and Jay was his brother.
Investigators say two guns were recovered near Jay, but it’s unclear whether Jay was holding one or if the guns were his. In the 911 call officers responded to, the caller said a neighbor told him someone was breaking into his apartment. The caller did not say Jay might be inside. The caller, Jay and the person who allegedly broke into the apartment are related, police said. The 911 caller claimed a neighbor told him about the break-in, and he didn't know who the intruder was. Police said the caller knew it was his own relative coming to collect on a debt. “The investigation revealed that a family member informed the 911 caller he was coming over to take the caller’s property,” said Prince George’s County Police Chief Malik Aziz In a recorded statement. “This fact was not shared during the 911 call for help.” Chief Aziz blamed the apartment leaseholder for creating a dangerous situation.

Modesto, California — On February 13, 2024, at 12:40 a.m., Officer Clayton Keener conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Paradise Road and S. Martin Luther King Drive. The driver, an adult female and a passenger later identified as 41-year-old Mark Coke Jr. were contacted by the officer. Greenville Deputies Shoot Suspect Pointing Shower Handle at Them |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Greenville, South Carolina — On September 6, 2023, prior to the shooting, a 911 call was made to dispatch by a relative requesting a welfare check on 36-year-old Gary Whitten due to recent concerning behavior and his expressed intention of dying. A second call was made by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office to the relative to get the cell phone number for Whitten. The Sheriff’s Office informed the caller that deputies were at the location to perform a welfare check on Whitten and wanted to know if that would be triggering for him due to his threats. Back to January 17, 2024, deputies deputies were staged outside a mobile home in Landrum, where Whitten was hiding after killing his mother and longtime partner.
Deputies called for Whitten to surrender for about 26 minutes before he stepped outside. During negotiating attempts, Whitten stepped outside and extended his arms while holding a chrome object and pointed it at deputies, which turned out to be a shower head. Believing the object was a firearm, eight deputies fired at Whitten. At least 20 shots are fired in rapid succession over six seconds as Whitten falls to the ground on the front porch. Sheriff's office medics then tried to perform life-saving efforts on Whitten, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. While an independent investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division is ongoing, the sheriff's office internal affairs office found that the deputies were justified in using deadly force.

Sacramento Deputies Fire 33 Gunshots at Armed Man Who Fired Rounds From His Apartment Window |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Sacramento County, California — On January 10, 2024, at about 5:30 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the Sienna Square Apartments in the 4700 block of Marconi Avenue, between Mission and Root avenues. The deputies received reports of a man firing a gun out of his apartment window. William Wilson, 43, then "fired several more" shots from his apartment at responding deputies. A SWAT unit and negotiators also responded to the scene.
At 9:38 p.m., Wilson finally exited the apartment, four hours after the initial response from deputies, when authorities inserted a chemical agent into the apartment. Wilson was holding a gun behind his back and refused when deputies directed him to drop it. What followed was an exchange of gunfire between Wilson and the deputies. Members of the Special Enforcement Detail team tried to provide first aid to Wilson before medics arrived. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The three deputies who shot at Wilson were part of the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail (SED). A total of 33 shots were fired between the three. One deputy fired nine shots and has been with the sheriff's office since 2016 and a member of SED since 2020. A second fired two shots and has been with the sheriff's office since 2007 and SED 2021. The third deputy fired 22 shots and has been with the sheriff's office since 2018 and SED since 2023.

Deputies Rescue Kids Abandoned in Woods by Suspect On-the-Run |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Medford, Oregon — A Jackson County Grand Jury indicted a man today wanted on charges stemming from multiple incidents involving domestic violence and child endangerment. The suspect, Justin Ryan Trompeter, 24, of Trail is wanted for two counts of second-degree child neglect, felony fourth-degree domestic violence assault, third-degree robbery, first-degree theft, harassment, and two counts of reckless endangerment. The suspect remains on-the-run with Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies continuing their investigation. Trompeter is known to frequent Jacksonville, Shady Cove, Eagle Point, and Trail. JCSO deputies were originally searching for Trompeter in connection with a February 7 domestic violence assault call where he fled the scene at a high rate of speed with the children.
On Friday, February 16, JCSO deputies received information that Trompeter was hiding with the children, ages 6 months and 1.5 years, deep in the surrounding Jacksonville woods. Deputies quickly located a vehicle at the top of Wagon Trail Drive around 1:30 p.m on Friday, February 16. JCSO deputies approached the car with caution, but Trompeter had fled the scene before deputies’ arrival. Deputies found the two young children abandoned and alone in the car. Deputies believe the children may have been left alone in the vehicle for up to two hours. Further investigations revealed suspected fentanyl and meth in the car with the children. Mercy Flights medics checked the children on scene then turned them over to Department of Human Services (DHS) personnel. After the incident, the children were treated at a local hospital and remain in DHS care.

LAPD Officers Shoot Suspect Who Advanced Toward Them With a Plastic Fork |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Los Angeles, California — On February 3, 2024, at 2:14 p.m., Central Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of an “Assault with a Deadly Weapon,” at the 600 block of Towne Avenue. The comments of the call indicated the suspect was under the influence and armed with a stick threatening employees. When officers arrived at the location, they met with the Person Reporting (PR). The PR stated the suspect entered the business on the 4th floor of a warehouse, located at the 800 block of East 7th Street and told the PR to leave the location. The PR, who was in fear, left the business and contacted the police.
The PR told the officers the suspect had access to sharp items and metal objects inside the business. The PR signed a Private Persons Arrest for Trespass and directed the officers to the 4th floor. Once on the 4th floor, the officers observed the suspect inside the business and ordered him to exit with his hands up. The suspect initially complied then turned and charged toward the officers with a white object protruding from the bottom of his clenched right hand, which was held at chest level. The officers deployed less lethal toward the suspect, which was ineffective. The suspect continued to advance toward the officers with the object still clenched in his right hand. The suspect grabbed one of the officers and the Beanbag Shotgun she was holding, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and brought to the ground, where he was taken into custody without further incident. The officers rendered aid to the suspect until the arrival of the Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. The suspect was transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The object possessed by the suspect, believed to be a knife, was later determined to be a white plastic fork. The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Jason Maccani. The item was recovered at scene and booked as evidence. No other community members were injured as a result of this incident. A supervisor, who was with the officers when the incident occurred, sustained a laceration to his right hand. The supervisor was treated for his injury at a local hospital and released.

Car Thief Gets Shot by L.A. Police Following High-Speed Chase in Downtown |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Los Angeles, California — On January 19, 2024, at 12:14 p.m., Olympic Division uniformed patrol officers conducted a want/warrant check on a white Dodge pickup truck. The inquiry revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen earlier that day and that the victim had left a firearm inside the truck. Once officers obtained an additional unit, and an Air Unit was overhead, they attempted to conduct a High-Risk stop on the vehicle. The driver, later identified as 32-year-old Mario Alvarenga, failed to yield and accelerated away. Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit which was eventually taken over by Southwest Division uniformed patrol officers. Alvaranga continued into Newton Division and eventually collided with a parked vehicle at 12th Street and Paloma Street.
Alvaranga exited the vehicle and ran into an occupied shipping facility, located on the 1100 block of East Pico Boulevard. Officers followed Alvaranga into the open business, and while inside, Alvaranga stopped and faced the officers. Alvaranga removed a handgun from his clothing and racked the slide in front of officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. Alvaranga was struck by gunfire, fell to the ground, and was taken into custody. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported Alvaranga to a local hospital where he was admitted for gunshot wounds. He is listed in critical, but stable condition. No officers or other community members were injured as a result of this incident. A Sig Sauer, Model P365ss 9mm handgun, which was registered to the victim, was recovered from the scene and booked as evidence. The firearm was not loaded and its 12 round magazine was empty.

Bodycam Footage Shows Moments Before Tennessee Deputies Shot During a Traffic Stop |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Maryville, Tennessee — On Thursday, February 8, 2024, Blount County Sheriff Deputy Shelby Eggers, 22, is seen In split-screen body camera footage pulling over and approaching 42-year-old Kenneth DeHart. Deputy Eggers tells DeHart that he had been driving on the wrong side of the road, to which he replies that he was busy tying his hair up and didn’t notice. He said he was driving back home after attending a high school sports game for his son, and later told Deputy Eggers he was in his grandmother's car after leaving his truck at home. He gives Deputy Eggers a document when she asks for the vehicle's registration, and she walks back to her cruiser as he searches for documents about the car's insurance. Back at the cruiser, she calls Deputy Greg McCowan, 43, about the traffic stop. Deputy Eggers got back out of the cruiser, approaching DeHart. Deputy Eggers asks DeHart several times to exit the vehicle, saying she suspected him of smoking marijuana. DeHart refuses to get out of the vehicle and repeatedly denies smoking marijuana.
The second deputy, McCowan, then arrives at the scene and approaches the vehicle from the driver’s side, instructing DeHart to step out of the car. DeHart again refuses and Deputy Eggers opens the car door and attempts to pull DeHart out as he resists. After the suspect refused to comply to the Deputies, McCowan deployed his taser. The footage showed DeHart screaming and writhing in pain after he was hit multiple times with the taser. DeHart is seen slamming his door shut and releasing a barrage of gunfire towards both of the deputies. Body camera shows Deputy McCowan dropping to the ground. McCowan’s dash camera video shows Deputy Eggers getting shot and limping away toward a patrol car. DeHart then fires an additional shot before driving away as Deputy Eggers fires at the fleeing car. After the shooting, Deputy Eggers radioes that she and McCowan had been hit and flags down a vehicle. She calls for Deputy McCowan, but gets no response.
After radioing for assistance, she attempted to put a tourniquet on herself, with the footage showing blood on her leg. Moments later, a truck with a man and woman inside is seen pulling up beside Deputy Eggers and offering assistance. The man helped Deputy Eggers apply the tourniquet. The woman walked over to Deputy McCowan, then came back and said, "He's not breathing." Other officers arrive a short time later. Authorities later announced Deputy McCowan was killed in the shooting. The incident triggered a multi-day search for DeHart, including through wooded areas, as authorities warned the public of an armed and dangerous suspect. Deputy Eggers has since been released from the hospital. The suspect in the case, Kenneth DeHart, evaded police for nearly five days before he was captured at a home in Knoxville on Tuesday, the day before McCowan’s funeral. He was charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, and felon in possession of a weapon. Three people have been charged with helping DeHart: his brother, Marcus DeHart, his girlfriend, Carrie Matthews, and a third individual identified as Maurice Warren.

12 and 13 year old Boys Lead Seattle Police on Chase After Stealing a Car From a Driver at Gunpoint |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Seattle, Washington — On February 13, 2024, at about 8:21 p.m., officers were in the area of Aurora Avenue North and North 88th Street investigating reports of two boys walking around with a handgun, when they were then dispatched to a carjacking at gunpoint nearby. At about 8:30 p.m., a woman called police reporting she’d just been carjacked in the Greenwood neighborhood near North 85th Street and Aurora Avenue North. The woman told police she’d just gotten home when she was approached by two suspects who tapped on her windows, pointed a gun at her and told her to get out. One of the suspects fired a shot into the air. She told police she gave them her Subaru Outback and her belongings. They drove off in the car. The woman called 911 from a nearby gas station and worked with police to try to track her Subaru. A shell casing was recovered from this scene. Then at about 9:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 12200 block of Phinney Avenue North in the Bitter Lake neighborhood where a man reported an attempted carjacking at gunpoint.
The victim told police he was sitting in his car when two men tapped on his driver’s side window and passenger’s side window. He said both had handguns and demanded his car. He refused to give the suspects anything and one of them fired a shot into the air before getting into what appeared to be the car from the first carjacking and leaving the scene. A shell casing was recovered. Shortly after both incidents, Seattle police located the Subaru Outback near North 125th and Aurora Avenue North. A pursuit was authorized and the King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter was brought in to assist. Officers tried to stop the young suspects near Wallingford Avenue North and North 82nd Street, but the pair sped away from police on State Route 99 in the stolen car. The vehicle pursuit came to an end at Seventh Avenue North and Thomas Street. The 12-year-old and 13-year-old boys tried to run away and tossed the guns during a foot pursuit, but both were arrested. The guns were also recovered. The two are charged with robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm and the 13-year-old is also charged with attempting to elude a police vehicle. They have been booked in the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center.

Bodycam Video Shows Wanted Parolee in Shootout With Escondido Officers in California |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Escondido, California — On Friday, November 3, 2023, at approximately 6:40 a.m., Escondido Police received a call stating that a male, identified as 48-year-old Douglas Quinn, was sleeping in a sleeping bag on the porch of a mobile home in the 2500 block of East Valley Parkway and he did not belong there. As officers responded, the call was updated to state that Quinn had now gotten up and was pushing a blue motorcycle through the mobile home complex. At approximately 6:50 a.m., two patrol officers from Escondido Police contacted Quinn matching the description from the radio call pushing a motorcycle inside the complex. They began speaking to him. During the contact, based on the information provided by Quinn, they learned he had a felony warrant for a parole violation out of Indiana.
As officers began to detain Quinn, he turned and began to run. He also began reaching into his waistband. Quinn then pulled a firearm from his waistband, pointed it across his body at the officers, and fired multiple rounds. Both of the officers fired multiple times at Quinn, striking him at least one time. Quinn fell on the ground next to some bushes. He then rolled over with the gun, again pointing it in the direction of officers, prompting one of them to fire several more rounds at him. Officers requested additional officers and resources and were able to move forward and take Quinn into custody. A firearm was located near him. Officers began rendering aid, including CPR, until Paramedics arrived and transported Quinn to a local hospital. Quinn was pronounced deceased at the hospital. No officers were injured or struck by gunfire during this incident.

LA County Deputies Shoot Robbery Suspect Armed With a Gun |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Los Angeles, California — On January 13, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Century Station deputies were on patrol, in their marked patrol vehicle, in the 1600 block of Florence Avenue, in unincorporated Los Angeles. A female flagged down the deputies and told them that while she was working inside her parked food truck a male pointed a handgun at her and demanded money. The male was later identified as 38-year-old Noor Ramsis of Reseda. The female said she last saw Ramsis walking westbound on Florence Avenue and out of view. She provided a detailed description of Ramsis’ clothing and physical characteristics.
Deputies located and contacted Ramsis walking on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of East Florence Avenue and ordered him to show them his hands. Ramsis turned toward the deputies while armed with a handgun, at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Ramsis was struck by gunfire, dropped the handgun, and fell to the ground. Deputies rendered first aid until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics. Ramsis was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A loaded semiautomatic handgun was recovered at the scene. It was later determined that Ramsis committed an armed robbery at a business, a couple of hours prior to this incident, where he stole the handgun and money. There were no other persons injured in the incident.

Gun-Wielding Suspect Wounded in Officer-Involved Shooting After Reckless Chase in Los Angeles |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Los Angeles, California — On January 14, 2024 around 8:51 a.m., Los Angeles Police officers were in the area of 6th Street and Witmer Avenue, when they observed a blue Audi Sport Utility vehicle driving recklessly. The driver of that vehicle was later identified as Marc Gonzales. After following the vehicle for several blocks, the officers initiated a vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, the officers were involved in a traffic collision with a light pole, lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the pursuit. An Air Unit located the vehicle in the area of Pico Boulevard and San Pedro Avenue and shortly thereafter, a different Rampart unit began pursuing the vehicle.
That pursuit terminated at Hooper Avenue and 12th Street when Gonzales lost control of the vehicle and collided into a curb. Gonzales immediately exited the vehicle holding a handgun. He began walking west on 12th Street toward an additional Rampart unit who arrived in the area. The officers ordered Gonzales multiple times to drop his handgun; however, he did not comply and raised the handgun, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. Gonzales was struck by gunfire and collapsed on the sidewalk. He was subsequently taken into custody without further incident. The officers rendered aid to Gonzales until the arrival of Los Angeles Fire Department personnel.
Gonzales was transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The initial pursuing officers that were involved in the traffic collision were not seriously injured. No other officers were injured during this incident. Prior to the OIS but during the pursuit, Gonzalez fired a round which struck a community member seated inside of a vehicle stopped at a traffic signal. The community member sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh and was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released later that day. A Glock 9-millimeter semiautomatic handgun was recovered at scene.

The deputies verbally commanded Roux to drop his weapon and show his hands. Roux did not comply with the verbal commands. One Deputy fired his duty weapon several times, striking Roux. The deputies requested EMS and rendered aid until paramedics arrived and took Roux to the hospital for treatment. He was later released and booked into the Harris County Jail.
The Sheriff's Office Homicide Division conducted the investigation and charged Roux with:
- aggravated assault against a public servant - one count
- aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - four counts.

Florida Deputies Shoot at Unarmed Man After Mistaking Falling Acorn for Gunshot |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Okaloosa County, Florida — On November 12, 2023, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Deputies had responded to McLaren Circle around 8:42 a.m. in reference to an initial call of a vehicle driving around honking its horn and disrupting the peace since 3:00 a.m. A second call for service came in from a woman stating her boyfriend, 22-year-old Marquis Jackson, had committed grand theft auto, a felony offense, and had been calling and texting her threats. The victim provided text messages she said had been taken from inside her vehicle showing what appeared to be a firearm suppressor pointing at the dash of the victim’s vehicle. Jackson showed up at the scene around 9:09 a.m. and was detained, searched, handcuffed, and placed in the rear of Deputy Jesse Hernandez’s patrol vehicle while the investigation continued, and the victim completed the affidavit for the stolen vehicle. The victim told deputies Jackson had a silencer and she was not sure where it was and that also he had more than one weapon. As Deputy Hernandez was returning with a Victim’s Rights form for the caller, other deputies found the victim’s vehicle at 1656 Hunt Club Street.
Deputy Hernandez was approaching the passenger side rear door of his patrol car to do a secondary search of Jackson when he heard a pop sound which he perceived to be a gunshot and believed he had been hit. He began yelling “shots fired” multiple times, falling to the ground and rolling. He fired into the patrol car. After witnessing Deputy Hernandez’s response and reaction, the Sergeant Beth Roberts responded with gunshots towards the car as well in response to the perceived threat. Jackson escaped injury and no weapon was located. Deputy Hernandez had been with the OCSO since January 2022. Sergeant Roberts has been with the OCSO since May 2008. Both were current on resistance training and firearms qualifications. Deputy Hernandez resigned on December 4, 2023, during the investigation but was ultimately found to have violated policy. The deputies were cleared of any criminal wrongdoing. Jackson wasn’t injured, and no weapon was located, the OCSO said. After investigation, the sound was determined to have been made by an acorn hitting the roof of the car.

Fountain Police Officers Shoot Suspect and Dog Following a Domestic Disturbance Call |
(Y) |
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Fountain, Colorado — On May 19, 2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Officers with the Fountain Police Department responded to 3 Taos Circle, regarding a domestic disturbance. Officers contacted 51-year-old James Boyle in the front yard who claimed his wife, Shawna Boyle, locked him out of his house, prompting him to try to enter through a window. He also stated that his dog, was aggressive, and that he did not want officers to shoot it. Boyle was allowed to enter his residence and officers noted he was hostile towards law enforcement and that two officers should respond to the residence for any future incidents. The next day, May 20, 2023, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Corporal Zackary Corey and Officer Destin Alvarez responded to 3 Taos Circle regarding a domestic disturbance, again involving James Boyle. Officers were preparing to clear the scene when Bret Boyle, James and Shawna Boyle’s adult son, drove up to their location.
Bret Boyle told the officers that his father was threatening to kill his mother and that James assaulted her in the past. Bret informed Corporal Corey that his father had access to firearms located inside the residence, but that he did not know its current location. Officers decided to contact Shawna Boyle to gain more information. Corporal Corey and Officer Alvarez drove their marked patrol vehicles to the front of the Boyle residence. Both James and Shawna came out of the residence and waited for Corporal Corey to approach them at the front door of their trailer. Corporal Corey asked Boyle to come over and talk to him. James refused and asked if he was under arrest. Corporal Corey informed James that the Fountain Police Department had received calls about multiple domestic disturbances at their residence, including an incident the day prior.
James said he didn't believe Corporal Corey and he backed away, moved towards the front door of the residence, and put his hands in his pockets. Corporal Corey told James to take his hands out of his pockets, at which point James immediately turned and began opening the front door. Corporal Corey grabbed him to prevent him from going inside the trailer, where James’s son had reported his father had access to firearms. At that point, a physical altercation occurred between Corporal Corey, Officer Alvarez, and James. During that altercation, Corporal Corey pushed James, who fell on top of Shawna. At the same time, the family’s pit bull was able to escape the residence as James was attempting to open the front door, and attacked Officer Alvarez, pulling him to the ground, and biting him in the face and arm.
Officer Alvarez broke free from the pit bull, and while still on the ground, retrieved his service weapon. He shot the dog four times, killing it. James stood up and began to move toward Officer Alvarez and the front door of his residence. Officer Alvarez had holstered his service weapon and drew his taser on James. After warning James that he would use deadly force, Corporal Corey issued three commands for James to stop, which he ignored. Officer Alvarez deployed his taser, striking James James in his chest area. The taser seemed to have no effect on James, who continued to grab for the handle on the front door. Corporal Corey then fired his service weapon two times, striking James in the back two times. Both officers rendered medical aid to James until paramedics arrived on the scene. At his autopsy, a forensic pathologist determined two gunshot wounds caused James' death. James was also found to have been intoxicated with 1500 mg/ml of methamphetamine at the time of his death.

Burton, Michigan — On Saturday, July 15, 2023, The Burton Police Department responded to Kings Lane Apartments for a welfare check. Police were given information that a woman was dead inside the apartment. Her parolee husband, 44-year-old Tony Roy was not in the apartment when police found his wife’s body. But, witnesses told investigators that Roy had told someone that he had murdered her.
