A People's History Of Haiti w/ Pascal Robert |
(Y) |
It is difficult to understand what is currently happening in Haiti, without knowing its full history. Pascal Roberts gives us an overview of how Haiti went from the most valuable of French colonies to the second republic in the western hemisphere.

Pascal Roberts: Basically do you understand the situation relative to Haiti is to put Haiti's revolutionary independence struggle that started in 1791 in the context of its proximity to the US history. When the Haitian revolution started in 1791 George Washington was president of the United States. So we have to understand in relative relativity to these two factors that the importance of Haiti to the development of the United States in the 19th century and even after its initial founding was very very important. Because prior to Haiti's independence the republic was called Saint-Domingue, under the auspices of control of the French. Haiti was the colony was actually more valuable to the French than all 13 colonies were that were of value to the British because the trade-in sugar particularly sugar coffee tobacco but particularly sugar and rum made it one of if not if not the most valuable colonies in the slave plantation system that existed in the western hemisphere. So one of the things you have to understand as well is that contrary to this in the consciousness of a lot of people who look at slavery in the American context as being so brutal so horrible, the French plantation system in Haiti was absolutely egregious. If any of you I'm sure you guys have read Black Jacobins, which is a book I have some issues with for various problems, they would do things like bury slaves and sand and put molasses on their heads and have maggots and ants eat at their face they will put the gun powder in the anal orifices of Africans who were rebellious that literally had them explode. The type of tortures that the French would engage in with the African plantations Africans, on the plantation, was absolutely brutal beyond words. So much so that the average life expectancy of an African slave who was brought to the island as a young adult or an adult would be no more than five to seven years. So in other words you bring an 18 year old african slave to Haiti at best he's going to live to maybe what 25 26 and he's going to die. And one of the reasons why the french did not care about that is if you read actually french writings they would say things like "the shores of africa are always generous".podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists

Rick Scott Says Republicans Aren’t Racist Cheaters, GOP Wins On ‘Policy’ |
(Y) | | |
Rick Scott was speaking at CPAC and said that conservatives need to stop worrying about Democrats calling them racist. He says the Democrats will call them racist no matter what and that Republicans win on the policy. He then spouted his childish ideology where America is the greatest country ever and any criticism of it is "woke".

Sam Seder: Just about owning the libs or showing off what the latest like prescription drugs you've been abusing. it's also about making people not feel so self-conscious about themselves. and here is Rick Scott telling the CPAC audience that they need to stop worrying about what other people think in terms of their racism.
Rick Scott: Now in the past Republicans have been intimidated when Democrats call us racist but we've got to stop being intimidated. We can't allow that the Democrats know that they lose on actual policy we win on policy, so that's when they play the race card. We can't stand down and we can't cower to the Democrats calling us names. They're going to call us racist no matter what we do. That game has to be over we've got to stand up and fight for what we believe in fight for our conservative principles we're going to fight for free fair and secure elections. We're going to fight for a government in Washington this doesn't represent liberal special interests or woke corporations, or woke CEOs, or Democrat activists that want our children to teach our children that our country and our values are bad. We're going to fight for the values that make our country great because we are the greatest country in the history of the world. We have to stand up every day and fight for our faith our families and this country we love.
Sam Seder: I want to get to the broader point about what he's telling them. but so if I get this right the conservatives bring up policies and then the democrats kill the policy discussion because they say you're racist. let's go over the election policies: free and fair elections. okay fair enough I think that's at least that's I guess that's a policy.
Emma Vigeland: Democrats are against that I guess. Well when you count in what Rick Scott means by fair I think democrats probably are against it that's I mean free and fair it means it's like very specific people get to vote if only there was an election bill in the senate that Rick Scott could support right now
Sam Seder: Indeed but the other major policy was no-woke stuff that's a big policy. Like I remember reading some of the policy papers that came out of the “No Woke Institute” and that stuff was pretty heavy reading. Don't do that don't try that late at night. No more sitting down with a glass of chablis and reading the no-woke policy statements because those are too difficult to get through.
Emma Vigeland: I took a no-woke class at Liberty University. But there's also another policy that he outlined he didn't use the name critical race theory but he said no learning that America is bad that policy no learning that America is bad or done bad things that's a big policy prescription there. and then also the final biggest policy was that our country's great so our values got to be great. and when the Democrats came out with the no great values policy I was like well I don't know about this it seems a little weird and now I think they're paying the price for it. I mean it's like children! it's like children! but this is the thing that Limbaugh did all the time too no self-doubt. Limbaugh used to literally talk about this in the context of not just like culture but in terms of people's own personal situations. it can't allow any doubt to creep in and this is Rick Scott going out there saying let's pretend like we have policies that we're offering other than we're just reacting to things culturally that we don't like. and when the democrats say hey you're reacting to things in our culture that you don't like as in like black people or the fact that people besides someone who looks just like you are getting some modicum power within society. they don't like being called out on that. but they don't you know what's amazing is like they're not even offering any policies subscribe you know prescription there's nothing.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | rick scott | cpac | woke | cancel culture | woke ideology

George W. Bush Says U.S. Troop Pullout From Afghanistan 'Breaks My Heart' |
(Y) | | |
The US is ending its longest war ever, and the guy who started it 20 years ago has something to say about it. George W. Bush began the Afghanistan invasion in 2001. The US has been stuck in a quagmire ever since. Now Biden is finally pulling all American troops out of the country and Bush (who is also responsible for the Iraq War) says, "It breaks my heart." He now weeps for the women of Afghanistan, who are now open targets for the Taliban, but he sheds no tears for the hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis that he is responsible for.

Sam Seder: What is amazing to me is that George W. Bush has the mental capacity to moralize about anything. Honestly like I think that it would be a fascinating experiment to sort of replace his forehead with just some plexiglass and to put in like you know one of those like bariums or something to see how his brain's firing. when he has the ability to talk about the suffering of women and children in a foreign land where he is on german television talking very pleased Afghanistan talking about the pullout of American forces from Afghanistan.
George W. Bush: Yeah I was very pleased she was supportive of troops in Afghanistan and by the way and one of the reasons why is because she saw the progress that could be made for young girls and women in Afghanistan. It's unbelievable how that society changed from the brutality of the Taliban and all of a sudden you know sadly I’m afraid Afghan women and girls are going to suffer unspeakable harm.
Interviewer: Is it a mistake? The withdrawal?
George W. Bush: you know I think it is yeah I think because I think the consequences are going to be unbelievably bad and I’m sad and I spend, Laura and I spend, a lot of time with Afghan women and they're scared and I think about all the interpreters and people that helped not only US troops but NATO troops. and they're just it seems like there's going to be left behind to be slaughtered by these very brutal people and it breaks my heart.
Emma Vigeland: yeah you know what's just like the same as being slaughtered by brutal peoples being slaughtered by brutal Americans.
Sam Seder: first off supposedly the bi administration has offered 2,500 visas for all those folks and that they haven't even been all taken up put that aside from the idea that this guy who's responsible for hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis. dying hundreds of thousands by the most conservative estimates by our own government's defense department estimates. hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians. It ranges from several hundred thousand to a million Iraqi civilians killed as a function of that war of choice. Two million internal refugees. Two million external refugees. The idea that this guy has the audacity to moralize in public about the suffering of other people as a function of U.S. policy is I don't think there's a better case than to be present you need to be a sociopath.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | george w bush | afghanistan withdrawl | taliban | feminist | womens rights

How Ronald Reagan's Regime Led To The Jan 6th Capitol Riot |
(Y) | | |
The Capitol insurrection on January 6th was a long time coming. Back in 1980, Ronald Reagan's campaign was laying the groundwork for what would become Donald Trump's platform. They explicitly targeted Americans that bent toward authoritarianism and now we can see the results. This interview previously aired on Peacock on July 14th, 2021. Emma Vigeland discusses how the Ronald Reagan campaign sowed the seeds of the MAGA movement with Rick Perlstein.

Rick Perlstein: Yes if I said to you that the Reagan presidential campaign in 1980 targeted people with authority authoritarian tendencies you might accuse me of you know slandering Ronald Reagan. but in this particular case, I literally have a historical document in which they pretty much say let's target people with authoritarian tendencies. so the document in question actually which I read about in advertising age magazine in an article about his pollster Richard Worthlin in an article about how he strategized for the Reagan campaign and won advertising ages ad man of the year which is kind of goofy and interesting in itself. one of the things that one of this guy Worthlin's aids told the reporter was that Reagan supporters quote obtain high scores on authoritarianism and a low score on egalitarianism and then they also discovered basically that European ethnic groups living in large cities followed the same pattern and hence they were a prime target of conversion. so and this is a quote that Reagan launched his campaign with quite highly visible visits to such neighborhoods. so literally they're like let's find people who you know are democrats right then democrats then and though we can turn into republicans and the way we're going to find them is to find these pockets where people are most likely to be authoritarians. and these were places like south Boston where there was a terrible controversy over bussing where people basically fought the police to keep their kids from going to school with black people. or Cicero Illinois which is a formerly all-white suburb of Chicago where Martin Luther King was warned by the county sheriff that if he held a housing march there he'd be committing a suicidal act. you know Milwaukee Wisconsin, which was the most segregated city in America, which was kind of undergoing a very big reckoning when it came to police violence against African Americans and this is literally you know where Ronald Reagan you know we know that Ronald Reagan opened his general election campaign right in the summer of 1980 in Neshoba county. Which is another great you know example of a place where you'd find a lot of authoritarians because of course, this was where Goodman Cheney and Schweiner were lynched in 1964 for registering African-Americans to vote. but this was actually the opening of his primary campaign. and so that's what they did and I found something else that was very interesting in this article and it shows basically in the most elegant way I’ve ever been able to come up with because this is a not really a complicated concept but I’ve never really found a really elegant way to kind of a hammer to really kind of get this across to people. the devolution of the republican party from Reagan to trump so yeah it's bad enough that a political party is saying let's find thugs you know so we can you know basically turn them into republicans so we can win a presidential election. that's really nasty in itself. but one of the aide who basically explained this to the reporter said well Ronald Reagan said he didn't want to do this anymore so we stopped you know going to these places. and I don't really know what he was talking about because yeah they you know never their appeal to authoritarians never really ebbed but what's fascinating about that is you know this expression of shame right this very admission.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | january 6th | capitol insurrection | ronald reagan | donald trump | maga

How Michael Flynn Helped Spread, And Then Profit From QAnon |
(Y) | | |
How does a high-ranking Army general in the Obama Administration become the leader of a massive conspiracy movement? Michael Flynn became notorious after he was fired from the Trump administration for his ties to Russia, back in early 2017. Since then he has become a martyr for the MAGA movement. Particularly for QAnon followers, who view him as a hero. This interview previously aired on Peacock on July 14th, 2021. Sam Seder discusses how Michael Flynn helped spread QAnon with Candace Rondeaux.

Sam Seder: And and we should say it also I think you're also literally spotting those new front lines on that platform which is a new front line. Emerging because this is you know and I mentioned this before we started to record this interview the nature of what I have done in doing this program or one similar over the course of the past well really I mean I started on am talk radio 15 16 years ago, has changed where my understanding of what is politics has had to expand with the development of things like social media and these virtual worlds that exist online. At one point I remember dismissing “gamergate” which was ostensibly about ethics in gaming game review journalism but was also turned out to be basically just a misogynist sort of altercation between two people that grew into this supposed movement which ultimately was exploited by Steve Bannon and Milo Yiannopoulos and created communities that ultimately led to I think enterprises like the Proud Boys and other groups that ended up being some form of shock troops we saw some of them many of them arrested in on January 6th or in in the wake of January 6th and so this has a lot of resonance and it and you have written extensively here on the thread of Michael Flynn. so let's go back and just give us a sense of where where where Michael Flynn sort of entered into this world and at what point does he I guess intersect with q anon. I am not convinced that four or five years from now q anon well three years two years from now will be as big as you know what we referred to as the Tea Party. I'm also not convinced it's not the same people but be that as it may when did Flynn first come on the scene.
Candace Rondeaux: Well I mean Flynn kind of enters the scene very early right I mean with his elevation to the national security adviser position in the white house under Donald Trump. you know within days of the election back then so November of 2016 Flynn gives this speech that like has become kind of this mantra or kind of rallying cry of what we now know today is the q anon crowd right the kuna movement. And it was a speech at the trump hotel and that he was giving to the young America foundation which is a conservative outfit you know that kind of targets young Americans who are into things all things republican and so he gives a speech and explains how you know this online movement that trump and his allies have created is kind of like a digital army. And he says you know we have this movement this insurgency of digital soldiers right and that becomes digital soldiers becomes this kind of signature you know you know catchphrase of this online you know social movement of conservative pro-trump republicans who kind of swept into the white house. But it's actually you know very soon after that basically as a scandal erupts over Flynn's connection to Russia or at least his alleged connections to Russia and then his conversation with the Russian ambassador and then he gets fired right in February 2017. there's not very long after that you start to see that actually the evolution of this idea that Flynn has been sort of victimized in some way by the fake news the fake media begins to kind of bubble up online on some of these fringe platforms one of which very famously 4chan which also intersects with the gamergate phenomenon that you just mentioned. and it's there you know in October 2017 that we start to see the convergence of Flynn's influence and his idea about raising a digital army of digital soldiers converge with this conspiratorial q anon movement that erupts on you know in October 2017 on 4chan.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | michael flynn | maga | qanon | january 6th | capitol insurrection

Private Debt Collectors Are Profiting Off America's $27 Billion In Court Debt |
(Y) | | |
"Court fees" may just sound like a nuisance, but they are actually a huge problem. People without a lot of money who receive these fines may not be able to pay them right away. In cases like that, the debt then gets referred to a private debt collection agency. That's where the real exploitation takes place. This interview previously aired on Peacock on July 9th, 2021. Sam Seder discusses private debt collection with David Sirota.

Sam Seder: You start by following a guy named Matt Holland who lives in Spring Hill Florida. He was arrested and spent some time into in prison for breaking into cars with friends to steal stereos but the big issue was he was facing state court fees and then this metastasized tell us about this story and how it's indicative of a major problem in many states across the country.
David Sirota: Well this is a story by the daily posters Walker Bragman and it's a story that we've been following as on the whole which is the "debt collection industry", and I think people don't think about it as a whole industry, but it really is a multi-billion dollar industry and the story at the beginning of that piece of our latest reporting on this is a story about a guy who essentially just gets buried under more and more court fees which snowball. And this is not an isolated incident. We are living in a country now where at least and I want to underscore at least where $27 billion of outstanding court debt is now out there these are fees related to if you're appearing in front of a court anything from municipal violations to fines to everything that is related to a person being in front of the judicial system $27 billion of outstanding court debt. And the story is not just about that debt it's about the fact that state and local governments and by the way the IRS are starting to hire for-profit debt collectors to collect that debt now the one of the most unbelievable things about this is that you have an IRS that has been has seen its budget slashed it is reducing audits of millionaires okay so essentially in using the lingo it is reducing its debt collection efforts against very very rich people at a time when we know the estimates are that the top one percent is not paying somewhere between 174 billion and 250 billion dollars a year in owed but unpaid taxes. So on one hand you have the debt collection part of government essentially reducing its effort to collect that debt from the top one percent while also hiring for-profit debt collectors to go out and try to collect 27 billion dollars worth of outstanding court fees. And here's the thing when you hire a for-profit debt collector what you're doing is you're in many cases these debt collectors are allowed to attach additional fees onto the fees that people owe additional fees essentially to pay the profits or boost the profits of the debt collector themselves anywhere from 25 percent to 40. So if you're somebody who has outstanding fees and you get one of these private debt collectors on you you're not only going to necessarily pay the fees you're going to have to pay the fee of the debt collector as well to pad their profits. This is happening in states across the country.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | david sirota | debt collection | debt collectors | for profit debt collection | court fees

Freedom Phone Guy Is Your New Favorite Right-Wing Grifter |
(Y) | | |
Bitcoin's youngest millionaire would like to introduce you to the Freedom Phone, a phone that he has invented to protect you from censorship and spying by Big Tech's overlords. Sam Seder and the Majority Report crew try to determine what a phone that only has access to an "uncensorable app store" actually would have access to. The Freedom Phone is confusing, and its creator, Bitcoin MILLIONAIRE Erik Finman, doesn't answer all of our questions, but he does say that he's left "Big Tech, to fight for free speech."
Of note: Erik Finman didn't make a phone in his garage. He probably sourced it from China, as Matt Lech points out, and he looks the phone up and estimates that it's marked up about $500. So what is our Bitcoin Freedom Phone MILLIONAIRE Erik Finman actually selling? It seems to be, well, the phone, but also the "uncensored app store," called the PatriApp Store. It's a grift, and it's going to work.

Freedom Phone Guy, Erik Finman: Name one time in history, where the people who ban books, media, and opinions, were the good guys. Hi, I'm Erik. I'm the world's youngest Bitcoin millionaire. I made it in Silicon Valley, and I've accomplished a lot in my life already. But now, I'm leaving Big Tech, to fight for free speech. Because the Big Tech overlords are violating your privacy. Censoring your speech. And I think that's so wrong. That's why I created the Freedom Phone. And its uncensorable app store. Everyone is complaining about Big Tech censorship, but no one is doing anything about it. They say, "Build your own phone!" So I did. Freedom Phone truly is the best phone in the world. It does everything your current phone does, except censor you and spy on you. With the Freedom Phone, your freedom of speech...
Sam Seder: How does a phone censor you?
Matt Lech: Autocorrect.
Sam Seder: What apps are you gonna go on? It doesn't have access to Twitter or YouTube? I don't understand.
Emma Vigeland: Maybe it has... It doesn't have the Apple app store.
Sam Seder: It has an app store that doesn't have many apps in it.
...
Freedom Phone Guy, Erik Finman: ...your freedom of speech is our number one priority. That's why we made our app store completely uncensored.

Tucker Carlson: ‘Race Lady’ Joy Reid And MSNBC Inciting Genocide |
(Y) | | |
Tucker Carlson really teaches a master class in the art of projection when he calls @MSNBC the channel that is "ginning up race fear to mobilize the militias." He goes on to mock Joy Ann Reid for "screaming once again about those diabolical white people." Tucker Carlson has made @Fox News his own personal white nationalism project — not that it wasn't a home for that before. But this is an amazing feat of a real or, more likely, performative, lack of self-awareness.
The clip is a year old, and Joy Ann Reid is talking about Conservatives that expect "essential" workers, like hair stylists and restaurant workers, to go back to work during the height of Covid, despite Conservatives' insistence on not taking any precautions like wearing masks. Reid says that because essential workers are disproportionately Black and brown people, and Conservatives are disproportionately white, this is a race issue. She's not wrong.
Tucker Carlson's show regularly promotes the idea that there is a race war brewing, if not already underway to some degree, in the U.S. He's going to have to try a lot harder if he wants to blame that on a Black broadcaster. A LOT harder.

Sam Seder: Tucker Carlson. Am I mistaken? Did Tucker Carlson ever have multiple times where he would put up the anti-white agenda? In fact, we have talked about Tucker Carlson in this way... Let's put this clip up. Yeah, this was just like a week or so ago. This is just the most recent one. This is Tucker Carlson, his anti-white mania, and in fact, when we were talking about this, I think we covered this clip when he did this. We mentioned the Hutus. Here's Tucker Carlson maybe just having noticed something about his own coverage, decided to do a little projection.
Tucker Carlson: Like puppies, all TV networks are cute when they're little. The problem is you never know what they're going to grow up to become. So what is MSNBC now? Well, effectively it's the Hutu radio network, ginning up race fear to mobilize the militias. Here's the channel's new lead anchor, screaming once again about those diabolical white people. Joy Ann Reid: And so here we are again with Conservatism. At least among a certain cohort of white guys now rooting itself in the idea that even during a pandemic, these screaming men and women have the god-given right to get their roots done and order a steak at the restaurant and hit the golf course in the bar. And that those rights which they claim were conferred upon them by god require a disproportionately Black and brown labor force to return to work get back on the wheel and risk death in order to serve them and return them to their comfortable lives.
Tucker Carlson: Broadcasting that crap 24 hours a day. Shades of Kigali '94. We regret to inform you that tomorrow we'll be killed with our families.
Sam Seder: Okay first of all, the clip was from over a year ago, and she's talking about Covid.
Emma Vigeland: She's talking about essential workers, like Black and brown people, who are disproportionately minimum-wage workers, going back to work when there aren't safety precautions.
Sam Seder: Yes and also, the commensurate rises in deaths and in Covid infections during that time. That's the best example they could have? Don't they have a big staff there?
Emma Vigeland: It was soiled from the outset with a really weird line by his writing crew, that puppies, that TV networks are like puppies?
Sam Seder: No, you know why he's got to do that. Because he used to work on MSNBC. He was on MSNBC in the aughts.
Emma Vigeland: No, I understand what the motive is, but like, puppies? Networks are cute at their outset, and grow mean? I don't know man. Come up with something a little better. Sam Seder: They wanted to just sort of come up with some type of way of saying, like, "I know I used to work there, but back then it was good. We had Pat Buchanan on, and he really, really hated a lot of people."
Emma Vigeland: Yes dogs are only good when they're little, and then they're evil when they grow up.
Sam Seder: He is the one who is fomenting and referencing race war over and over again. It really is stunning. But now it's MSNBC because he needs to project what he's doing.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | tucker carlson | fox news | msnbc | joy ann reid

Laura Ingraham Thinks Bernie Is President |
(Y) | | |
In this Majority Report clip, Laura Ingraham is upset because the U.S. economy has been nonstop booming for 250 years. UNTIL NOW. The Child Tax Credit is destroying U.S. citizens' incentive to create. Never mind that it's going to low-income and middle-class families to help them pay bills and afford food. It also turns out that the Child Tax Credit has turned Joe Biden into Bernie Sanders. And don't forget the ever-present argument that Democrats want to "brainwash" children with Critical Race Theory — Ingraham points to a reading list that includes anti-racist books for young children.
Sam Seder, Emma Vigeland, and the Majority Report crew discuss Laura Ingraham's right-wing talking points about corporate-tax rates causing consumer prices to rise (untrue), the Child Tax Credit being an insult to proud Americans (they can return it, we guess?), and Universal Pre-K being a Leftist scam to indoctrinate 4-year-olds (just...no).

Sherrod Brown TORCHES Republicans Over Child Tax Credits |
(Y) | | |
Sam Seder and Emma Vigeland discuss the Child Tax Credits that were a part of the Covid relief package. The "credits" are "advance tax credits," which means that they are payments. They aren't means tested, other than being based broadly on income. Families are starting to receive monthly payments. Republicans are not happy about this. Sam Seder introduces a video of Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) on the Senate floor calling Republicans out for consistently voting for tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and vehemently opposing the money that is going to lower-income and middle-class families because of the Child Tax credits.

Here's What's In The Biden-Approved Portman/Sinema Infrastructure Bill |
(Y) | | |
Sam Seder and Emma Vigeland are joined by writer and author David Dayen, who explains whats in the "Portman/Sinema" infrastructure bill. U.S. Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) have negotiated an infrastructure deal that Joe Biden has signed off on. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will force a procedural "test vote" on the bill next week. Dayen describes the obvious obstacle to passing the bill: Convincing Republicans to vote for it; and the ways in which the obstacle might be overcome: tax increases, prescription-drug price reform, and long-term economic growth.

Infrastructure Package Summer w/ David Dayen - #MRLive - 7/16/21 |
(Y) | | |
Sam and Emma host David Dayen, executive editor at the American Prospect, on his upcoming Infrastructure newsletter, “Infrastructure Summer,” and the recent developments with Biden’s legislative agenda. They begin with a discussion on the current state of the Infrastructure Package, its emphasis on “human” infrastructure over brick and mortar spending, and the thought process behind Sen. Schumer potentially forcing a test vote next week. They look into the Democrats’ classic revenue-versus-spending problem, furthered by the complete Republican opposition to any tax hike, and the importance of emphasizing the return on the investments in the citizenry with human infrastructure and by taking on prescription drug prices. They additionally touch on rumors around dropping the medicare age (and its unlikelihood), and explore Biden’s recent executive order tackling anti-trust and anti-monopoly issues in an expansive manner – even taking on prescription drug companies – before looking into what Biden has been failing to do, and what to look for moving forwards. Emma and Sam also touch on the boost of the child tax credits, what Dems should do to capitalize on their popularity moving forwards, and the staff bids Brendan farewell after four great years, and Sam drops a few hints on who might be coming in to make up for his absence.
And in the Fun Half: Alacrity from Alabama makes the return he’s been waiting for as he takes on minimum wage, Terry from Indiana calls in to deliver a wholesome thank you, and Brent from Michigan gets a little airtime to rant against conservative outrage against Critical Race Theory. Then, the crew chats about Sam’s political roots, before looking into Tucker Carlson’s – from his first notes of inspiration talking about Bill O’Reilly’s facade in the face of Fox viewers to taking on the mantle of crying “race war.” Grant Stinchfield uncovers the big conspiracy occurring in the networks of the military-industrial complex (woke Marxism) as Emma speculates on the potential implications of this for a non-binary bay of pigs, and Sam admires Erik Finman, Prophet of the grift, and his new “Freedom Phone,” plus, your calls and IMs!Join the Majority Report Discord!

Candace Owens' STUPIDITY Knows No Bounds, Says Covid Is Cover For Communism |
(Y) | | |
Emma Vigeland introduces a clip of The Daily Wire's Candace Owens, on her show, "Candace." Candace Owens is discussing this past weekend's protests in Cuba, and insinuates that Twitter is manipulating their headlines to run cover for what is really going on in Cuba, which is that they aren't protesting shortages of goods and services during Covid-19, they are protesting communism itself. She goes on to say that Covid-19, worldwide, is "democratic socialists, aka the communists, coming together to bring communism to the American shores." There are a great many problems with Candace Owens's theory, among which are that Covid-19 is real and the U.S.'s foreign policy and vaccine exportation policy are a big reasons for the current problems in Cuba. The Majority Report crew discuss.

Emma Vigeland: Candace Owens is just doing her thing, and she has gone even further down the Covid-19 conspiracy wormhole than I've seen some of her colleagues at The Daily Wire do at this point. Let's take a listen to what she has to say about Covid and communism.
Candace Owens: We obviously know the reason that they're running point on this is because they don't want Americans to connect the dots. Because we're at the beginning of this horror show, right at the beginning, where they come and they say, "It's going to be great everyone, we're going to band together, we're going to take from the rich people and you're going to have more." And they are in Cuba, at the end of this nightmare, and realizing that, actually, no. It was just their government growing themselves, empowering themselves, and removing power from the people. These people are starving, and they're in the streets, and I want to get to actually Twitter, because this shocked me when i saw the banner. Everybody in the world knows this is about them protesting against communism, and look at Twitter's headline: "The protests take place across Cuba as country faces shortages of Covid-19 vaccines." This is a protest about, you know what, I'm going to agree with them. This is a protest against Covid-19, because Covid-19 is nothing but a big cover for communist rule hitting the shores of the West. You are masking our children; you're pretending it's because of Covid-19. You are radically changing the way that we vote in this country; you are pretending it's because of Covid-19. All of this stuff is actually the democratic socialists aka the communists coming together to bring communism to the American shores.
Guy: Absolutely, and it's exactly what they did before they consolidated power and Fidel finally admitted he was a communist. In fact, you look at their propaganda they put out back then, you could interchange that with the actual materials from democratic candidates today. We're not communist, we're humanists. We're pro-justice for all, we want health care for all, we want education for all. They wanted indoctrination in schools for all, they wanted division of race for all, they wanted to go door to door.
Emma Vigeland: "Candace," that's the name of her show. I like how it's like in the vein of "The View," it kind of looks like.
Brendan Finn: Oprah.
Matt Binder: Where's the show on? Is this on like The Blaze or something?
Brendan Finn: Daily Wire.
Emma Vigeland: Yeah, the big "O" for Owens, but the show's called "Candace," so maybe just make it about that. I am confused about this argument here. She passionately talks about how the protests in Cuba are about communism. And then it takes quite a turn, that Covid-19 in and of itself, is a plot to bring communism to the shores of the West. So can you guys help me piece this together? I'm not exactly sure how she made that initial leap and how masking has anything to do with communism.
Matt Lech: Just like they think any sort of climate change addressing is an attack on capitalism, because fundamentally it is, it's pointed out that capitalism actually can't address this problem and we need major government action and collective action to do so.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | candace owens | covid 19 | communism | candace owens communism | the daily wire candace owen | the daily wire | cuba protests 2021 | cuba covid | covid 19 communism

Debating A ‘Centrist Depopulationist’ About Welfare |
(Y) | | |
Emma Vigeland takes a call from a Majority Report viewer who mentions that earlier in the show, the MR crew was talking about strategic racism. A debate about welfare slowly begins. The caller is a centrist, and he takes issue with lax social safety net disbursements, namely “welfare,” by which he presumably is referring to Supplemental Security Income (SSI), probably housing assistance programs, and what people still refer to as “food stamps”: the Child's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
First the caller says that his cousin had nine children because she was on welfare and there were no controls on the system, and that now one of her kids is a hitman. (Okay??) Then he says that he is a “depopulationist,” and that the government should cut off assistance to people who have too many children that they cannot afford. Things really devolve from their. The caller is big on “personal responsibility,” and it’s incredibly difficult to understand who he thinks should determine who decides this.

Newsmax Guy Spews BREATHTAKING IGNORANCE About WW2 And Sports |
(Y) | | |
Emma Vigeland introduces a clip of @Newsmax TV podcast host Rob Carson expressing his view that the world should be eternally grateful to the U.S. for our role in World War II. Apparently, the United States alone saved Europe from Nazi Germany in WWII, and France owes us. This relates to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, because he should not be acting diplomatically toward European countries, he should be asking for "thank yous." Things take a turn to the cultural, with Newsmax's Carson saying that the U.S. also invented "rock 'n' roll and blues and baseball... We took cricket and we made it into baseball. We took rugby and made it into football. Honestly, you owe the world an apology to us." The Majority Report Crew discuss.

Cuba Isn't Suffering Under Communism, It's The USA's Economic Stranglehold |
(Y) | | |
Emma Vigeland discusses the recent mass protests in Cuba. Thousands of Cubans have taken to the streets in the past week to protests shortages in food, medicine, hygiene products, and other basic goods. Government services such as electricity and water, always unreliable, have worsened during Covid-19. The Cuban economy relies on tourism, and with Covid, the economic and jobs situation has escalated into a crisis. Residents have become desperate during lockdown, and increasingly frustrated with President Miguel Diàz-Canel and his regime. U.S. sanctions have been a topic of conversation on the Left, as the Biden administration promises to "review [their] Cuban policy, with an eye toward its impact on the political and economic well-being of the Cuban people." The Biden administration's insistence that it is reviewing or looking at or considering the Trump administration's policies toward Cuba or even the U.S.'s long-held sanctions against Cuba are a source of anger for many. Humanitarian aid seems to be very much needed, and soon. The restrictions put in place by the Trump administration's rollback of the Obama administration's policies toward Cuba have created significant restrictions that are in the way of providing aid. Emma's suggestion is simple: Circumvent those restrictions immediately.

Emma Vigeland: Let's talk about Cuba a little bit here, because protests have broken out in Cuba recently over food, medicinal shortages and people have the right to critique their government. They have legitimate critiques; they can have legitimate critiques over the inefficiencies of the Cuban government's ability to provide, which have been exacerbated by the pandemic that crippled Cuba's economy because it relies a lot on tourism. And not every critique of a government that is on the left is something that we're going to say is illegitimate, right. That's not what we're talking about here. But in the United States, the conversation about the U.S.'s crippling sanctions that were reinstated by the Trump administration being a driving factor here is largely absent. It's not, at least, talked about enough at all. And these sanctions have become more and more obviously immoral and cruel, and that includes sanctions on Iran and other countries amidst this global pandemic, because sanctions hurt the citizenry. They are offset onto the people in that country, and they're starved and they're lacking in medical supplies in many instances. Luckily, the Cuban government has a significant history of providing for its citizens, so it's not as bad as, say, in Iran, but the Biden administration has not reversed Trump's reversal of Obama's policy of ending much of those crippling sanctions.
Jen Psaki was asked about this yesterday. Let's take a listen to what she had to say.
Reporter: Secondly, on Cuba, what is the status of the review of the Trump era policy?
Jen Psaki: Sure. So i would say, Steve, that you and others who covered this certainly know that, one, first, I will confirm, of course, we're still reviewing our Cuba policy with an eye toward its impact on the political and economic well-being of the Cuban people. The nature of the kinds of changes that were made by the previous administration, like redesignating Cuba as a state sponsor of terror, carry significant statutory restrictions. We've been running a thorough policy process on these and other issues, with support for democracy and human rights always at the core of our work. Now, there's no question that the protests over the weekend and the events of the last several days are a significant events. It was the largest protests we've seen in Cuba in a long time. That will obviously have an impact on how we proceed. So we will see how things develop in the days ahead, and develop our policy responses accordingly. We don't want to do it as one-offs. We want to look at it as we have been, with a comprehensive approach in mind.
Emma Vigeland: Okay. So she says there that there are statutory restrictions, because the Trump administration designated Cuba as a state sponsor of terror. So here's the solution: Circumvent those restrictions immediately. Then she also says that support for democracy and human rights is always at the core of the United States' work.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | biden | cuba | cuba protests 2021 | trump | emma vigeland | us policy | cuba and covid 19 | covid 19

Spike Lee has produced a cryptocurrency ad — a video that highlights the fact that women, Black people, and indigenous people are less likely to have bank accounts, and thus, American currency is a currency of oppression. He then uses a panopoly of "culturally rich" individuals to demonstrate that "new money" is inclusive, and thus, the future. It's painful. The Majority Report crew discuss.

Emma Vigeland: This story pains me a bit, you know. I love that Spike Lee is the Knicks fan that he is. I love his dedication; I love his outfits; and you know, I love a lot of his movies, right? Not recently that much, but historically, he was a interesting and thoughtful and a provocative filmmaker who brought different kinds of stories to different audiences. And now apparently he is just a Bitcoin bro. And he's using these incredibly manipulative arguments from cachet that he built up of from decades ago based on what I just talked about, in order to get people to put their hard-earned money into buying pretend money. Let's take a listen.
Spike Lee: Our currency is not current. Old money, as rich as it looks, is flat out broke. Don't believe me? I got the receipts. We call it green, but it's only white. Where's the women, the Black folks, and the people of color? Native Americans got a nickel. A nickel! People don't even stop and pick up the nickel off the sidewalk. Seven million americans have no bank account. Twenty million under banked. Old money is not going to pick us up. It pushes us down. Exploits. Systematically opresses.
Emma Vigeland: I'm sorry. The cynicism of using the fact that women and Black people and Native people and more have been excluded from the earnings and from wealth potential in this country in order to sell a scam is despicable.
Matt Lech: And obscures real policy choices like postal banking that could just easily address things like unbanked people.
Matt Binder: Also the idea that cryptocurrency is new money that changes all this — name me every single person who you think of when you think of cryptocurrency. Elon musk, the Winklevoss twins, Satoshi — who we don't even know who that is, but it's definitely a dude based on the name — we're talking about men, majority of them white. Are you kidding me? Show me this, and you'll get to it in a second, show me the black trans women —because they come up in this video — show me the black trans women whose lives have been changed by cryptocurrency. Please show me them.
Spike Lee: But new money? New money is positive. Inclusive. Fluid. Strong. Culturally rich. Where status is anything but status quo. Do your own research. The digital rebellion is here. Old money's out. New money is in.
Matt Binder: All right so this is a commercial for a company named Coin Cloud, but I love the use of when they're doing the new money thing, I love the use of the the Harriet Tubman $20 bill because that's what their example of new money is but that's the [ __ ] old money that they're talking about. There is no Harriet Tubman cryptocurrency, like are you kidding me. They don't... because they don't have a visual way to show their fake nonexistent digital money because it's all just...
Brandon Sutton: That's what sold it for me, too. I like when the Harriet Tubman 20 came up. That's like sent my sides into space. Because ultimately you know he's dressed kind of like a carnival barker. It's just a lot of flashing images i just wanted him to drop like, "Are you tired of being robbed by banks like in my hit 2007 movie 'The Inside Man' starring Denzel Washington? Then invest in Coin Cloud or Bitcoin or whatever is going on." It's very cynical to draw on the historical sort of exploitation of Black and brown and just generally poor communities by traditional banking institutions to sort of pivot them into what is essentially an even less regulated stock market...podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | spike lee | cryptocurrency | bitcoin | wall street | kendrick sampson | emma vigeland

Dave Rubin And Rep. McCarthy Unite For DEMENTED 'MLK Was Anti-CRT' Take |
(Y) | | |
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Galaxy Brain Thought Leader Dave Rubin of "The Rubin Report" join up for, what else: a little analysis of the application of Martin Luther King Jr.'s thoughts onto modern-day issues. Kevin McCarthy says that MLK would be against critical race theory. Kevin McCarthy then immediately talks about CRT and school boards and then the GOP winning the 2022 midterms. Dave Rubin is presumably nodding his head in agreement. It's deranged; it goes directly against what Martin Luther King Jr. actually said in real life; and that's the modern-day Republican Party.

Sam Seder: You know who Dave Rubin had on his show? MLK scholar Kevin McCarthy.
Emma Vigeland: Ah!
Sam Seder: Yeah. Kevin McCarthy, of course, is the Minority Leader in the House.
Emma Vigeland: We're back to that? We're back to this bastardizing of MLK's legacy, right?
Matt Lech: "Minority leader..."
Sam Seder: "Minority, yeah minority leader..."
Emma Vigeland: He "gets" minorities.
Sam Seder: "He 'gets' it."
Matt Lech: "The minorities wouldn't let him do that if he didn't know what he's talking about."
Sam Seder: "They... minorities made him their leader, so okay, I rest my case."
Here is... "MLK would have been against teaching kids critical race theory. Well part of the reason is, of course, because it's a law school–level class, but we shouldn't, we, MLK was really big about age-appropriate learning."
Matt Lech: "Let's teach them the fundamentals first."
Kevin McCarthy: Right. Because all of these things about defunding the police. They're all... All these Democrat policies that are now going in place, we're seeing the outcome. The woke-ism. The open border. The inflation. Where we're going to have the biggest victory — school boards. We haven't been paying attention for the last 20 years. Critical race theory goes against everything Martin Luther King has ever told us: Don't judge us by the color of our skin. And now they're embracing it, right. They're going backwards. And the interesting part here is, okay, something else is happening. Not just an election, and it'll be a national election for Congress. What history says is the party in power, whoever wins the White House, on the first off-year election loses 27 seats. We lost 40. Obama lost 63. So that's... And they have a five-seat advantage.
Sam Seder: There you go ladies and gentlemen. There's the Rubin Report. Rubin of course asking the tough questions there. MLK: Totally against critical race theories, of course. Emma Vigeland: This is the long-standing Conservative tradition, though, of completely bastardizing, white-washing... We talked about Reagan earlier in the show and his project of trying to gut the Voting Rights Act while simultaneously — I bring this up every time — being the president that enshrined Martin Luther King Day as a national holiday, which had an effect that essentially completely whitewashed how difficult and how messy and how intense that kind of activism was, and what what was needed in terms of fortitude and that's by design. And so then McCarthy continuing in that legacy. He's just also so bad at this compared to Mitch McConnell, that's my other takeaway from this.
Matt Lech: We got a MLK quote here... "whites it must frankly be said are not putting in a similar mass effort to re-educate themselves out of their racial ignorance. It is an aspect of their sense of superiority that the white people of America believe they have so little to learn."
Sam Seder: Are you trying to... Am I supposed to believe that that was Martin Luther King? He never said the words white or black.
Emma Vigeland: He never talked about race. Everyone's the same color.
Matt Lech: Do you think if MLK was still alive Black people would be a little bit nicer and more understanding of white people?
Emma Vigeland: A little bit more obsequious.
Sam Seder: I can't believe the way they're bastardizing his thinking. He would never teach critical race theories or trigonometry to elementary school kids.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | dave rubin | dave rubin sam seder | kevin mccarthy | critical race theory | crt | mlk | mlk quotes

Don Jr. Transforms Into Gob Bluth Before Your Eyes |
(Y) | | |
CPAC 2021's theme was "America UnCanceled," and Donald Trump Jr. uncanceled himself and allegedly or seemingly or perhaps performatively uncanceled substances that should not normally enter a human being's body in any amount much less large alleged, seeming, performative amounts that could lead a person such as Donald Trump Jr. to be HYPED for the Conservative Political Action Conference, HYPED to make a joke that no one thinks is funny about Texas, and HYPED to be nervous and sweaty on a stage in front of a lot of people. Gob Bluth–vibes — only this time, it's tragically no illusion.

Sam Seder: CPAC... Let's start with Trump. People got really wasted.
Emma Vigeland: It seems like it's his permanent state of being, though.
...
Sam Seder: When I directed a fake reality show, there was a member of the cast — I'm not gonna say who — whose performance was influenced, in my opinion, based upon what drug that person had taken that morning. Early morning. Sometimes, I suspected it was something that was snorted, because they would occasionally just get a bloody nose. Or other times, they were really, really friendly, and I thought, hm, this reminds me of talking to someone who is on ecstasy. And then other times they would just be a little bit introspective and that reminded me of someone who had smoked pot. Anyways. I don't know why I bring that up, but here's Donald Trump Jr. at CPAC!
Donald Trump Jr.: Texas has always led the charge. Till about a couple months ago, and then Austin kind of like took over, like I don't know, guys. Texas was leading the charge... You're still top 25. But we gotta work on that stuff cuz those people have lost their minds. Right? The people's...
Emma Vigeland: I was trying to think of what character... He is, I'm 80% sure he's coked out. But I'm not a doctor. I'm sorry, yes, it's completely my opinion. I shouldn't say that. He reminds of Gob, from "Arrested Development." That's what just put it together for me. The way he talks. Will Arnett.
Matt Lech: Yeah, there's a Will Arnett, kind of nervous quality to him.
Sam Seder: Yes. I will say this: I read that "Vanity Fair" piece about Gavin McInnes, and it said he had an Adderall addiction. I don't know why I brought that up.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | Conservative Political Action Conference | cpac 2021 dallas live | donald trump jr | don jr | cpac 2021 | cringe

Tennessee GOP Cancels Vaccine Chief For Saying Kids Should Get Vaccinated |
(Y) | | |
Tennessee has been seeing a serious uptick in Covid-19 cases — one study estimates cases are up 404% in the last two weeks, which puts Tennessee in the number one spot for largest increase in new Covid-19 cases in the U.S.
Despite the severity of the health crisis, the GOP has pressured public health officials and institutions to stop efforts aimed at vaccination. The Tennessee Health Department is no longer doing any vaccine-related outreach to minors because of pressure from Republicans. The state's top vaccine official, Dr. Michelle Fiscus, was fired because of her efforts to get people vaccinated against Covid.
“It was my job to provide evidence-based education and vaccine access so that Tennesseans could protect themselves against COVID-19. I have now been terminated for doing exactly that,” she wrote in a statement.

Sam Seder: The head of the vaccine outreach program in the state was forced to quit or was fired for doing outreach for the vaccine. Now, the Tennessee Health Authority has been told, you're not allowed to do outreach about, not just the Covid vaccine, any vaccine. Play this clip.
@CNN 's Brianna Keilar: Dr. Michelle Fiscus says she lost her job over an argument about vaccinating teenagers against Coronavirus. Now she says she's worried about the people of her state. Dr. Michelle Fiscus joining us now to talk about this. She is a pediatrician who served as the medical director of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases and Immunization Programs at the Tennessee Department of Health. Doctor, thanks so much for being with us. First, can you just tell us about this memo: what it said and why you drafted it.
Dr. Michelle Fiscus: Sure, good morning and thank you for having me on this morning. I wrote the memo to Covid-19 vaccine providers in the state of Tennessee after I received several questions about what people should do if minors showed up to request a Covid-19 vaccine, because we were right on the cusp of the Pfizer vaccine being available for 12-year-olds and older. So I asked our office of General Counsel to provide some language to explain the Mature Minor Doctrine, which has been in place since the Supreme Court ruling in 1987, and sent that out in a memo to vaccine providers, and received some backlash as a result of that. And some of our legislators felt that the memo was meant to undermine parental authority rather than providing factual information to vaccine providers in the state on how to care for minors.
Brianna Keilar: Are you, in your view, being villainized for following science? How do you see this?
Dr. Michelle Fiscus: Well I think in general our state is not among the most progressive when it comes to listening to scientists. Our vaccination rate is at 38 percent. It's one of the worst in the country, although we had one of the fastest rollouts of the Covid-19 vaccine in the country. And so there is a significant contingent of people here and many of our lawmakers, unfortunately, who choose to buy into anti-vaccine rhetoric and conspiracy theory instead of listening to actual science and listening to CDC recommendations.
Brianna Keilar: Have you been told why you were fired? I was not. When you're in an executive service position in the Department of Health, you serve at the pleasure of the governor. You can be terminated without cause, and so that's what happened yesterday. I was given a choice to resign or be terminated, and I chose to be terminated because I've not done anything wrong except inform our physicians of where the the guidelines were around vaccinating minors. And, you know, my job is to protect, promote, and improve the the health and prosperity of Tennesseans, and that includes getting them vaccinated against Covid-19 and helping them understand the science around those vaccines.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | covid 19 | covid vaccine | covid 19 vaccine | anti vax vs doctor | anti vaxxers | tennessee covid cases

Senate Democrats Offer $3.5 TRILLION Spending Plan |
(Y) | | |
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Tuesday night that the Budget Committee had reached an agreement to set a $3.5 trillion limit for a spending package that would complete President Biden’s infrastructure plan, covering Medicare expansion, education, childcare, in addition to addressing the causes and effects of climate change. Sam Seder and the Majority Report crew discuss this.

Sam Seder: We will start, with Chuck Schumer announcing the Senate Budget Committee agreement to a $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill. Now, there's two different ways you can look at this... well, probably three. Maybe four. Joe Biden had originally said about $5 trillion in two different tranches. That was his opening salvo. One would assume that that number would come down a little bit because that's the way that you properly negotiate and maybe they learned from the Obama years that you don't start with the number that you want to finish at. And, let's put it in perspective: No one here in this room has been alive for a $5 trillion non-military spending — let's put it that way — bill, in this country. Nobody in this room has. And so this is a pretty significant piece of legislation if it can happen.
But, $3.5 trillion, and if you assume the bipartisan bill only gets $4.5 trillion. Now that $3.5, the $1 trillion, more or less, from the bipartisan bill, I think it's probably only about $500 billion new monies allocated. That $3.5 trillion in the budget resolution in the Budget Committee could end up being smaller. So, we gotta wait and see.
The biggest disappointment, as far as I can tell so far, out of this, just toplining, is that there is not a lowering of Medicare age. I think it's really important to do that. It's good to expand Medicare benefits, but I think the idea of getting everybody into the boat before you start to upgrade the boat is how I would approach it.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | the young turks | progressive news | majority report | leftists | Joe Biden | Chuck Schumer | Infrastructure | 3.5 trillion spending package infrastructure | Senate Democrats | medicare for all | medicare | climate change | education | child care | Budget Committee

Mitch McConnell Suddenly POWERLESS Against Republicans |
(Y) | | |
Mitch McConnell is totally befuddled, just at a loss, as to why on Earth anyone would be against getting a Covid vaccine. Covid-19 vaccines prevent serious illness and death. He knows that. He survived Polio. He is 150 years old, and so he knows that vaccines are miracles of science and everyone should be amazed that Covid vaccines were able to be produced and approved by the government so rapidly. Why won't everyone get one??? Well, because Republicans are fear mongering all over the country about the government trying to control the population, but of more relevance: maybe Mitch McConnell should give this speech on Tucker Carlson's program. That might be a game changer, because it's the wild west on that show. Up is down, and so on. The Majority Report crew discuss McConnell's statement.

Sam Seder: The majority of people in this country, maybe just barely, but the majority of people in this country believe that Covid is real and believe the data that shows unequivocally that the vaccine gives you — some instances, you know relative to hospitalization or death — massive protection from getting infected. And they don't want to go into public spaces, particularly closed-in public spaces, unless people have taken full precautions. And you know, I think what's really astonishing about this dynamic, I think you've got to be a lunatic at this point to not want the vaccine. But people have the right to be a lunatic.
But the resent and the anger and the righteousness from people who still maintain that Covid is fake, you don't need to take any precautions, that this is somehow it's offensive the idea that a business would say, "We just want everybody vaccinated because that's our business," is sort of predicated on people feeling safe.
Emma Vigeland: Well now they care about discrimination. Conservatives. When it's a public health issue.
Sam Seder: But this is demented, and it is going to lead to not just horrible outcomes in the context of Covid. I think we're already starting to see the broad contours of where this might lead in terms of not just in terms of social cohesion, but in terms of social health. The implications of this could resonate in a way that I think many people had not contemplated. Certainly I hadn't contemplated the implications of where this could lead years down the road. So not just in terms of temporarily, but also in terms of like across the board on what it's going to do to things like public health.
Let's... and here's what I'm talking about, let's start first with the single most powerful elected Republican official in the country.
Emma Vigeland: And the most influential politician of the past 50 years. Possibly. Or effective.
Sam Seder: Effective within the context of the Senate. I think Donald Trump has had a sway over the Republican Party that is unrivaled. Maybe Ronald Reagan had that, but I guess that was about 50 years ago or 40 years ago anyways. But Mitch McConnell, the one thing you can say is he really, really has control over his caucus in the Senate. That's the one thing you could say about the guy, right? All the nasty things... And there's only one person, I think, who doesn't think that he does, and it's only in this one circumstance. And that person's name is Mitch McConnell. And it's in this circumstance.
Mitch McConnell: How many times you all have heard me say this, but i'm a huge fan of vaccinations. As a Polio victim myself when i was young, I've studied that disease. It took 70 years — 70 years — to come up with two vaccines that finally ended the Polio threat. As a result of Operation Warp Speed, not one, not two, but three highly effective vaccines. And so I'm perplexed by the difficulty we have in finishing the job. If you're a football fan, we're in the red zone, but we're not in the end zone yet. And we need to keep preaching that getting the vaccine is important. Nobody knows more about that than Senator Blunt i don't know if you want to add anything, Roy, to what I've said here, but we need to finish the job. And part of it is just convincing the American people of the importance of doing this. Everyone who knows this subject says that if you get the disease again, your chances are pretty good you're not going to die from it if you get vaccinated.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | covid 19 | covid | covid 19 vaccine | mitch mcconnell | fox news | anti vaxxers | emma vigeland

Dumbest Guy On Newsmax Says Vaccine Bad Because Medicine Is ‘Against Nature’ |
(Y) | | |
Newsmax host Rob Schmitt covers a lot of ground in just one totally bonkers segment, telling his audience that a high Covid body count is somehow necessary because, "that's just kind of the way evolution goes," and that "vaccines kind of stand in the way of that." Sam Seder and the Majority Report crew discuss this.

ROB SCHMITT (@Newsmax TV HOST): When it comes to vaccines, and I really do want to make this clear, I mean, I'm not an anti-vaxxer. I'm not a pro-vaxxer. I'm somebody that's looking at this thing and trying to figure it out. I've got people in my family, very close to me, who I thought should get vaccinated because when you weigh the risks. But when it comes to vaccines in general, are you of the consensus that it could potentially take a long time to really know what a vaccination does to people in some cases? You know, one thing I've always thought, and maybe you can guide me on this because, obviously, I'm not a doctor. But I've always thought about vaccines, and I always think about just nature, and the way everything works. And I feel like a vaccination in a weird way is just generally kind of going against nature. Like, I mean, if there is some disease out there -- maybe there's just an ebb and flow to life where something's supposed to wipe out a certain amount of people, and that's just kind of the way evolution goes. Vaccines kind of stand in the way of that. Do you follow what I'm saying? Does that make sense to somebody in medicine?
DR. PETER MCCULLOUGH (GUEST): Well, there are some reports that support what you're saying. There's one by Nissan and colleagues from Boston and the Mayo Clinic that shows among vaccinated populations the diversity of different strains is narrowing. So it's going to be fewer numbers of strains. Right now in the United States, we're about 40% UK variant or the Alpha variant, and we're about 30% now Delta, which is the Indian variant. They get progressively weaker, but the diversity is changing with vaccination. And I think, probably, the best way to think about it is vaccines really ought to be targeted to protect the highest-risk individuals. A young person like you, if you got COVID, it's very easily treatable. You get through it. Natural immunity, for sure, is superior.
SCHMITT: Yeah, you know, that's -- you make a good point there. Again, it's like if you've got this big risk, I think it might be worth whatever it is. But if you don't have a risk, I just, I can't comprehend why you would take something -- they start learning about the heart inflammation and stuff like that. I just don't understand why it's being pushed so hard on people that are very young. And now they're trying to give it to kids. You saw today, you know, the CDC saying that going back to school in the fall, it looks like if your kid's not vaccinated, they're going to have to wear a mask next year.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | newsmax | covid 19 | covid vaccine | covid 19 vaccine | anti vaxxers cringe

Trump Says 'He Heard' MAGA Martyr Ashli Babbitt Was Killed By A Democrat |
(Y) | | |
Donald Trump tells @Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo that "he heard" the person who shot MAGA martyr Ashli Babbitt, "was the head of security for a certain high official. A Democrat. It's gonna come out." Sam Seder and the Majority Report Crew discuss this.

Emma Vigeland: Trump is now saying that it like a Democratic operative helped or killed Ashli Babbitt.
Sam Seder: Oh we do have that. She's the woman who was climbing through the broken window of the door into the main chamber of where the Congressional offices were there was a cop who was behind the barricaded doors yelling, "Don't come in, don't come in, don't come in." You could see it with the video is quite explicit on what happened.
Emma Vigeland: And there was a gun that was pointed out.
Sam Seder: And there was a gun pointed at her, and as she jumped through, he fired. I mean, I don't know if that was a justified firing, to be honest with you. I don't know why you don't fire up in the air once. The guy was terrified, I have no doubt. Scary situation. But it's quite clear what happened there, right. There was an assault on the Capitol. And I don't know how these people are like, "We're busting through these doors, but we don't mean a threat to anybody."
Emma Vigeland: And they're comparing it to George Floyd, who was accused of using a counterfeit bill, was completely subdued, and slowly murdered over nine minutes, while she was charging through broken glass.
Sam Seder: And to be clear, she wasn't alone. There were a mob, hundreds, if not a couple of thousands of people. So it's not analogous. But what's interesting is they are now making her some type of martyr, and what's also interesting is that they're doing this months later, when there is distance between the right-wing talking points of "Cops are right in all circumstances." And now there's some distance. And so now they can afford to do that. Here's Donald Trump both lionizing her and implying that the Dems took her out. Maria Bartiromo: Well that's right, and I want to talk about that. Because Ashli Babbitt, a wonderful woman, fatally shot on January 6th as she tried to climb out of a broken window...
Sam Seder: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. She wasn't trying to climb out of a broken window, she was trying to climb in through a broken window.
Emma Vigeland: Which was broken by members of the mob that she was a part of and again it's a tragedy that she died. It's a tragedy that she was brainwashed to the point that she was doing this. That's the tragedy.
Matt Lech: Yeah, that's the point is, the people who pulled the trigger are the people who said the election was stolen. Because stolen elections justify a certain amount of resistance. Now I think those people are completely misled, but they were misled by Republicans, and that's who she's... if she's a martyr to anyone she's a martyr to GOP propaganda.
Emma Vigeland: Yeah, the GOP gave this cop the gun, put his finger on the trigger, and then put pressure on it. And now they're trying to hold like some sort of funeral for the person...
Sam Seder: We also know that they know that they're lying when they have to say she's trying to climb out of a window. Climb out?
Maria Bartiromo: ...wonderful woman fatally shot on January 6th as she tried to climb out of a broken window. Her family has spoken out. Her family has been on Tucker Carlson, and they want answers as far as why this wonderful woman, young woman, who went to peaceful protest was shot. Do you have any information? There is speculation that this was a security detail in a leading member of Congress's security detail, a Democrat. What can you tell us in terms of who shot Ashli Babbitt? What do you know Mr. President?
Donald Trump: So I've heard that... I will tell you they know who shot Ashli Babbitt. They're protecting that person. I've heard also that it was the head of security for a certain high official, a Democrat, and we'll see, because it's going to come out, it's going to come out.
Emma Vigeland: "It was the same head of security that killed Seth Rich."
Sam Seder: We need to pull the other video. This idea that she was shot climbing out of a window, it is amazing. I just presumed everybody saw this.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | Ashli Babbitt | trump | january 6th | capitol insurrection | donald trump | Maria Bartiromo | fox news

Sam Seder: You know folks over at Fox... We all make mistakes. I just referred to Ari Berman as Ari Melber, that's a mistake that sometimes people make.
Emma Vigeland: Ari Bergermeister Meisterberger?
Sam Seder: Yeah, I don't know what that means, but... Look, the point is, we all make mistakes. And just because you work for a news organization, doesn't mean that you can keep all of these countries in Asia separate and distinct from each other.
Emma Vigeland: Especially when they're small countries.
Sam Seder: Yeah.
Emma: Insignificant to somebody at a cable news company.
Sam Seder: Rarely in the news. Who is this guy? We're not sure what her name is. But this is on the "Outnumbered" show. And here are the Fox... They are really... I appreciate the sentiment that maybe the Olympics should be canceled this year. But I wouldn't say it's because of this reason.
Morgan Ortagus: ...these Olympics. I like to call them the "Genocide Olympics." Anyway, I'm still on the team that I'm not even sure we should be competing because there is an ongoing genocide in Xinjiang. So, if we are gonna go to a country, if we are gonna compete and have American athletes there, in a country that's committing a genocide, even more important Harris, to have the freedom of the American flag represented.
Emma Vigeland: Wow.
Sam Seder: Wow. We gotta play that again, because there's a couple things that you should be aware of. That Japan is not China. That's the first thing you need to know. The Olympics are in Japan. The Uyghurs are persecuted in China. There are some small quarters where that is a controversial statement, or at the very least, the question of genocide is a controversial statement.
Emma Vigeland: Well it's a cultural genocide at the very least.
Sam Seder: But the one thing that is not controversial about that statement is that to the extent that it's happening, and it very well may be, it's in China, not in Japan. Now both those countries are in Asia. Fair enough. I don't know what else to say. What's impressive is that she's been saying this, she's been calling them the "Genocide Olympics," and no one in any other part of her life has said, "What do you mean by that? Genocide Olympics?" And then she would say, "Well, because of the Uyghurs." And they would say, like, "But you realize, the Olympics are in Japan?"
Emma Vigeland: Nope! The producers were like, "Nailed it!"
Sam Seder: Nailed it! Let's play this clip again. Now, the other thing you should also watch during this clip is, look at the faces of the other people on the show. They're not even blinking an eye. It's just like, "Oh yeah, you know, she's talking about the 'Genocide Olympics.'"
Sam Seder: That's impressive.
Emma Vigeland: Oh the freedom of the American flag. We should never do the Olympics in countries that have committed genocides. So in L.A., because of our genocide of the Native Americans, I'm sure that that Fox News pundit is on board for getting rid of that.
Sam Seder: Where is Xinjiang? She's really thought about this.
Matt Lech: "I'm on the team..." Who else is on that team that's been calling this the "Genocide Olympics," because I haven't heard from them.
Sam Seder: That's what I've been calling it.
Emma Vigeland: Oh well she's been cooking it up. She wants to have her own kind of War on Christmas moment, or Critical Race Theory thing, where, "I'm gonna move up on this Fox News ladder."podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | trump | Morgan Ortagus | fox news | fox news morgan ortagus | olympics 2021 | tokyo olympics 2021 | covid 19 | covid 19 tokyo olympics | kayleigh mcenany

Sam Seder: Unions need to sever their relationship with health insurance for their to be Medicare for All. We cannot have a situation where unions are also an obstacle. They're not the primary obstacle, I don't think they're even a secondary obstacle. The unions inhibited New York state's push for Medicare for All. And part of that is because I think there is a fear in certain quarters in unions and union movements and unions as institutions that their value add proposition is health insurance.
Emma Vigeland: Well it's also just the cudgel that they use... Some union heads have relationships with Democratic leaders, and there's a bit of — we saw this in terms of just messaging from some Democratic politicians — they'll use union health care plans, which are better, as a way to fearmonger about Medicare for All and health insurance and it has a chilling effect. The solution is stronger union protections, not at the exclusion of a health care push.podcast | sam seder | the young turks | progressive news | majority report | leftists | unions | labor | health care | democrats | medicare for all | unions health care | health care industry | labor movement | emma vigeland | M4A | medicare explained

Texas Democrats Go To War With GOP Governor Over Voting Rights |
(Y) | | |
Texas Democratic legislators, including State Representative Rafael Anchía, have fled the state in an effort to block a discriminatory election bill Backed by Republicans. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that Democratic lawmakers who have left the state "will be arrested" upon their return as he pushes ahead with changes in voting laws. Sam Seder and the Majority Report crew discuss this.

Sam Seder: The real extant issue, is what are Democrats going to do about the franchise? The votes. We have seen, and Ari Berman will tell us the details on this, of voting restrictions across the country. And this is just the beginning. The Supreme Court has made it very clear as to how open they are to disenfranchising people. And the real questions ultimately gonna be, what are the Democrats gonna do about it? Are they gonna do anything about it?
Emma Vigeland: Biden's supposed to be giving a speech about this, and my prediction is that it's going to be gobbledy-gook. What can you do without outright calling for an end to the filibuster, which he's not going to do?
Sam Seder: Well, this is the bottom line. This is the bottom line, ultimately. What are they gonna do about it? Are they gonna give a gobbledy-gook speech or even a good speech? Here is Texas state Representative Rafael Anchía and this at least what the Texas Democrats are doing. Every time Greg Abbot has called, is calling into session, calling the lawmakers into session to vote on a restrictive voting rights bill, the Democrats have said, "We're gonna leave." And deny you quorum. And this is one of those Democrats right now.
Rafael Anchía: And we are not going to buckle to the big lie in the state of Texas. The big lie that has resulted...that has resulted in anti-democratic legislation throughout the United States. We said, "No," when the big lie came to the Capitol in Texas and darkened our door. We said, "No," during the regular session, and we are saying, "No," during the regular session.
Sam Seder: And the thing to remember is in Texas, is these guys aren't full-time lawmakers as far as I know. They're not there that often.
Emma Vigeland: And there's a finite period of time where anything can get passed in Texas.
Sam Seder: However, Governor Greg Abbot, who remember now is facing a challenge from his right flank: Allen West, who used to be from Florida. Abbot is now saying that he's going to continue to call special sessions. Here's Greg Abbott.
Greg Abbott: What the House of Representatives can do, what the Speaker can do, is issue a call to have these members arrested. In addition to that, however, I can and I will continue to call special session after special session after special session, all the way up until election next year. And so if these people want to be hanging out wherever they're hanging out, on this taxpayer paid junket, they're going to have to be prepared to do it for well over a year. And as soon as they come back in the state of Texas, they will be arrested, they will be cabined inside the Texas Capitol until they get their job done.
Sam Seder: This is gonna get interesting. So the bottom line is, the Texas State Legislature meets for up to 140 days in every odd-number year.
Emma Vigeland: A system that makes sense.
Sam Seder: Of course! Odd-number years are the ones that desperately need legislation. But the governor can convene lawmakers for a 30-day special session. And I think he can do maybe an unlimited one. It's gonna be interesting to see what happens with this whole arresting and all of that stuff. This harkens back, when Wisconsin lawmakers did this, trying to stop Scott Walker from turning Wisconsin into a Right to Work state. The difference here, in addition to the specifics on the ground, is that broadly speaking, there's a lot more national support for what's going on in Texas.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | voting rights | texas democrats walk out | texas voting bill 2021 | greg abbott | voting rights bill 2021 | restricted voting rights

Dave Rubin Is 'Just Asking' If You Forgot How Dumb He Really Is |

SAM SEDER: Dave Rubin must get the talking points delayed because what Dave doesn't seem to understand is that we are past the Covid denial. We're into the mass vaccine denial sort of, right? Or aren't we into the Delta variant denial? Here is Dave Rubin with some deep thoughts about COvid.
Emma Vigeland: He's just throwing things out there.
Dave Rubin: None of it makes sense. Why is it that not one country somewhere, perhaps in Africa, that didn't have the technology or the wherewithal or the information to deal with this thing properly, why did not one country fail? Why didn't we find one city that was completely infected and everyone died? All of this stuff... I'm just asking questions here, okay. I don't mean to be a crazy Right-wing conspiracy theorist when I say all this. I'm just asking the questions, but we didn't...
Matt Lech: Dave Rubin, you can find like seven, eight months ago, he was literally doing these live streams where he'd be walking past the hospital and be like, "Look, doesn't that hospital's parking lot look suspiciously empty during the pandemic."
He is just an idiot conspiracy theorist.
Emma Vigeland: It's almost like, Dave: Covid doesn't have an 100 percent death rate.
Sam Seder: Well that's one of the things about Covid, is it does not have a 100 percent death rate. There's also... the fact of the matter is that there's just not as much travel between cities, not as extensive. But the idea that everybody would die, and frankly one of the things that we're seeing is in this country — he doesn't have to travel all the way to Africa to find this out — is that you look what's happening in states like Mississippi and Tennessee.
Emma Vigeland: Take what happened in India!
Sam Seder: Well in India, but i'm saying right now in this country, you're watching states that are vaccination rates below 40 percent are having massive explosions of Covid, and Missouri, Arkansas... and it's not happening in other parts of the country. It's conceivable and part of the reason why we want to be able to get the vaccine to places like the continent of Africa. Cities in Africa
Emma Vigeland: "The city of Africa."
Sam Seder: "The city of Africa." Is because ultimately the variants and the Covid will ultimately end up there. It's conceivable that the folks are wearing masks, and then you're in less dense areas and maybe it's... but at one point it could be a problem.
Matt Lech: He's really speaking for the type of idiot that listens to Rubin every day that wonders, like, "Oh, we're the greatest country in the world." They're so on the American Exceptionalism thing that that's an actual interesting question for them.
Sam Seder: In terms of practices pre-vaccination, they actually have the wherewithal in these countries to...
Matt Lech: Africa's dealt with some public health issues.
Sam Seder: Occasionally. It's happened. Yeah.
Emma Vigeland: It's amazing to me though that he has a subscriber base and there are people that are like, "I need to pay for that kind of content."
Sam Seder: On some level, you do need to pay if you want to bathe yourself in that type of ignorance you need to...
Emma Vigeland: Well you pay in more ways than one.
Sam Seder: You need to stake out a certain area and stay there. Because otherwise, if you go out, somebody's going to say, "Hey, why you keep calling it the Genocide Olympics?"podcast | sam seder | tyt | progressive news | majority report | leftists | dave rubin | dave rubin vaccine | dave rubin african city | sam seder dave rubin | the blaze | rubin report | emma vigeland | covid 19 | anti vaxxers owned | anti vaxxers

Conservatives Cancel Teacher For Telling Kids The USA Did Bad Stuff |
(Y) | | |
As the conservative onslaught against teaching critical race theory in the classroom intensifies across the USA, the firing of a Tennessee teacher last month for assigning the essay “The First White President” by Ta-Nehisi Coates to students in his Contemporary Issues class in February, and later in March, playing a video of “White Privilege,” a spoken word poem by Kyla Jenée Lacey to the same students, emerges as the third rail. Sam Seder and the Majority Report crew discuss this.

Sam Seder: What we will get to that story of a teacher who's teaching, let's be clear, a Contemporary Issues class back in February and then later in March. He was playing a video of "White Privilege," a spoken word poem by Kyla Jenée Lacey, and also this teacher assigned an essay that was first in "The Atlantic" magazine written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, "The First White President." And apparently, that's a firing offense in Tennessee.
Emma Vigeland: I remember that essay, which purely because I remember it you should fire me.
Sam Seder: Well what is amazing is the outcry that we would hear about college campuses that people have been protesting and somehow prevented the student activities council for supporting you know Milo Yiannopoulos or Ben Shapiro from showing up, yet when we're actually talking about a public school where a Contemporary Issues teacher assigns a Ta-Nehisi Coates article, and with all due respect to Ta-Nehisi Coates, this isn't the most radical of radical writings. But even if it was
Emma Vigeland: I wish it was. I wish it was a little bit more radical than Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Sam Seder: But regardless, the idea that this is grounds for firing. This is the thing, is that there are new stories that go on every day, and this has been from, I want to say time immemorial, but time immemorial when it comes to cable news, right... Like 15 years ago, I was on CNN arguing with somebody — the male president of the Concerned Women for America at the time — about the existence of the War on Christmas, and he cited some school in Wisconsin where they changed the name like of "Silent Night." They took Jesus out of the song "Silent Night." Now apparently, they had done that like 20 years earlier or something like that, it was just a different tune, whatever it was. And that existed, it was real, but was it catching a phenomena that was existing?
If you hype that, understand that you're building a narrative in media circles, and also know how all this works in this country. There is an existing power dynamic, and so the idea that the salience of one guy on cable television saying that there's an anti-white agenda, like Tucker Carlson for instance. There's an anti-white bias in this country, versus hundreds of students saying this in a college. Well even if you were to put 100 students in one college and 100 students in the other, we have history in this country. We have an existing power structure. You need to assess what constitutes news and what constitutes an actual danger to society based upon those contexts. The history of this country, the structure of this country, where the wealth lies, all of it. And to divorce yourself from those realities and claim that one threat is as much as another threat is completely blinkered. I'm sorry. It's just there's a difference between if you have kids under 10 and you have a window open on the first floor, it's different than having kids under 10 with a window open on the 10th floor.
Emma Vigeland: It's also just incredibly important to understand that it's a part of a larger project of — one: completely concealing those power dynamics; and two: making things like this Tennessee story possible. Because this is a part of a mobilizing effort by Conservatives with this critical race theory stuff because if you're involved in your local school board then you're certainly more likely to be involved in your State House races, and you're more likely to be supporting Republican candidates in those races.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | progressive news | majority report | Ta-Nehisi Coates | us history | critical race theory | white supremacy | Tennessee teacher fired | Matthew Hawn | Kyla Jenée Lacey | the first white president | Sullivan County School District

Seder Reveals EXCITING Suns-Out-Guns-Out Tank Top News |

Ronald Raygun has bullied Sam Seder once again, and this time, there are consequences for us all. Sam Seder made a bet that if the Majority Report merch shop sold 100 tank tops, he would wear a tank top during the Fun Half of the show. This is probably exciting for some of Sam Seder’s groupies, and maybe not as exciting for other people who are writing this and think it might be weird. (No offense, Sam.) Suns out guns out! Also, Ronald Raygun is maybe making him wear another shirt? There are multiple shirts involved somehow.

Demented CPAC Crowd Cheers Anti-Vax Moron's Deadly Misinformation |
(Y) | | |
On Sunday, CNN’s Jake Tapper showed Dr. Anthony Fauci, Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, a video clip from CPAC where the crowd loudly cheered while Alex Berenson dunked on the government for not convincing a higher percentile of U.S. citizens to get vaccinated. Fauci said the crowd’s reaction to the deadly anti-vaccine message from the Conservative Political Action Conference in Texas this weekend was “horrifying” and “frightening.” Sam Seder and the Majority Report crew discuss this.

Sam Seder: CPAC happened this weekend. That is where all the lunatics in the country go for a weekend to say, "hi," to each other and network. "Look at this innovation I have in insanity," "Well let me top that out with this innovation in my insanity." And then they get together...
Emma Vigeland: And synergize the insanity.
Sam Seder: They synergize. Here is Anthony Fauci, not as used to CPAC, I imagine, as most of us who are in this business, where we watch it every year in the same way that you would like...
Emma Vigeland: Not used to being a central figure at CPAC at the very least.
Sam Seder: Right. It's sort of like...
Emma Vigeland: A subject of conversation.
Sam Seder: But it's like I don't know, the first time you see penguins walk up onto the beach or something? Like the march of the penguins, but if you work in that industry, you're like yeah it just happens. Well, here it is. Here is Anthony Fauci watching a clip about vaccination, and he is horrified. Remember we now know that while the Delta variant can be responsible for breakthrough infections, in terms of hospitalizations and deaths, it is about as close to, you're not quite a hundred percent safe, but you're close to about 95, 98 percent safe from hospitalization or death if you are vaccinated. And here is Anthony Fauci watching people shower and bathe and swim in just pure ignorance and potentially Covid.
Anthony Fauci: ...to do with politics. It's a public health issue. It doesn't matter who you are. The virus doesn't know whether you're a Democrat, a Republican, or an Independent. For sure, we know that. And yet, there is that divide of people wanting to get vaccinated and not wanting to get vaccinated, which is really unfortunate because it's losing lives.
Jake Tapper: The Conservative Political Conference CPAC is going on this weekend. I want to play for you a clip of one of the speakers from that event yesterday.
Alex Berenson: They were hoping, the government was hoping, that they could sort of sucker 90 percent of the population into getting vaccinated, and it isn't happening, right. There's a younger people...
Jake Tapper: I'm going to cut him off right there, because he just goes on to say things that are not true about the vaccine. But what I wanted to get your reaction to is the crowd cheering when this gentleman talks about how the government was not able to achieve a 90 percent vaccine goal. The crowd cheers. As a public health official, what's your reaction when you hear that?
Anthony Fauci: It's horrifying. I mean they're cheering about someone saying that it's a good thing for people not to try and save their lives. If you just unpack that for a second Jake, it's almost frightening to say, "Hey, guess what, we don't want you to do something to save your life." "Yay!" Everybody starts screaming and and clapping. I just don't get that. I don't think that anybody who's thinking clearly can get that. What is that all about? I don't understand that, Jake.
Jake Tapper: On the other side of the political spectrum, the former health...
Sam Seder: Jake has no answer for that because he doesn't want to say.
Emma Vigeland: Alex Berenson, who "The Atlantic" wrote a piece on him called "The Pandemic's Wrongest Man." I would encourage people to read it because he's been wrong every single step of the way when it comes to the pandemic and predictions and just in science that he purports.
Sam Seder: And he seems to shift a little bit too. He's sort of like one of those guys like, when I play 21 I'm always going to hit on 13, and then I'm always gonna not hit on 13.
Emma Vigeland: Well you know when you're trying to pretend to be calling shots you've got to cover your bases by calling every shot.

GOP Donor Pays $1M To Rent Out South Dakota National Guard To Texas Border |
(Y) | | |
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem is renting out her state's National Guard troops to Texas at the request of that state's governor Gregg Abbott. A private donation from a GOP billionaire donor named Willis Johnson is funding the deployment. It's not clear that that's legal. Sam Seder and the Majority Report crew discuss this.

Sam Seder: I just still don't understand how this is legal, where a state can rent out their National Guard to a billionaire so that the billionaire can make a show of sending these National Guardsmen down to the border. Here's Dana Bash talking to Asa Hutchinson about Kristi Noem sending those troops via a billionaire political donation. It's crazy.
Asa Hutchinson: The Biden administration.
Dana Bash: I want to ask about what your colleague in South Dakota, Kristi Noem, is doing. She's raising some eyebrows because a billionaire Republican donor is funding her National Guard deployment instead of South Dakota taxpayers. Would you ever use political donation to send your troops to the border?
Asa Hutchinson: Not for this purpose. You know, this is a state function. It is something that we respond to other states in terms of disaster. I would consider it a bad precedent to have that privately funded. Now you know, whenever you're looking at supplemental pay for some state employees, we use private foundation money, so it's not across the board rule against that, but in this instance, I think it's very appropriate that we have our paid for by the usual state budget.
Dana Bash: Before I let you go you...
Emma Vigeland: Well that's how you know Hutchinson will never win a Republican primary on the presidential level.
Sam Seder: Can I raise money to rent the National Guard to maybe go in and force schools in South Dakota to teach critical race theory? Can I do that?
Rent the National Guard from New York state, send 50 troops into a couple of the schools in South Dakota, and force them to teach critical race theories. That's what I want to do. Emma Vigeland: Better yet, I think we should start a crowdfunding campaign for anybody who watched that Crowder video, see if they'd be interested in funding the National Guard to make sure that we're taught, that we teach everybody, I mean, let's drop the pretense: Not critical race theory, we want to teach everybody that white people are bad.
Sam Seder: The money needs to go to me first though, because I want to be able to be the General for this National Guardsmen, and the way you do that is you pay for it. So I don't want it to be, I don't want there to be sort of dispersed. So just be clear, that crowdfunding thing, the money has to go to me, and then I turn around and rent it. Because I'm not sharing power over my private army with other people.
Emma Vigeland: Well like a good, you know, authoritarian Conservative I do deflect to you. Sam Seder: Thank you. I appreciate the donations from everybody to support this, but I've got to be in charge.
Emma Vigeland: What's the oversight on if that even goes to what you're saying. Right? I mean this could be a total Trump border wall scenario.
Nomiki Konst: What I really don't understand though, in reality, though, is if this is going through a foundation that's their loophole, but really how have we not known about this before? How is it that two states can't be pitted against each other? Or three billionaires can't like use one National Guard against another? Is this really legal? Are we sure about this?
Sam Seder: It seems to be highly illegal, but i don't know.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | Kristi Noem | greg abbott | national guard | emma vigeland | nomiki konst | CNN

Squirt Gun Hero Tries To Snuff Out Tokyo Olympics Torch |
(Y) | | |
Last week a woman named Kayoko Takahashi used a squirt gun on the Olympic flame carried by a 73-year-old male runner during the torch relay in Mito City. I wanted to snuff out the flame,” said Takahashi upon her arrest. “I oppose the Olympics.” Emma Vigeland and the Majority Report crew discuss this.

Emma Vigeland: The Olympics will not host any fans. We've had guests on this program to talk about how the Olympics moving from city to city decimates the city in many ways, specifically the houseless population, and having the Olympics in the midst of a pandemic makes some of those problems even more intense. There have been protests throughout Tokyo trying to get the Olympic Games cancelled, but as of this morning they have now said that there will no longer be any fans allowed at all at the Olympic Games because a State of Emergency, I think, has been declared, at least in Tokyo, because of a new Covid surge. And part of these protests were filmed, including this legendary woman, who I couldn't get enough of. She's good, I'm not gonna spoil it. Just play the clip. This is the Olympic Torch walking by here.
Emma Vigeland: Exactly. She needed a Super Soaker; she brought just like, too little ammo in terms of a water gun to really take down the Olympic Torch. So next time, just bring back up, at the very least. Wonderful woman. Although, unfortunately, she has been arrested. But I really can't think of a a protest action I've enjoyed more in recent memory than taking a squirt gun to the Olympic Torch. Just really, really great stuff.
Brandon Sutton: The energy's always appreciated.
Matt Lech: Yeah, solidarity with that. I mean also, I didn't see what happened after that, but if that happened in America she would have been like shot or like absolutely bulldozed by a cop...
Emma Vigeland: Oh, we thought her neon orange and yellow squirt gun was an AK-47 so off with your head, essentially. But they did use a little riot shield. It was almost designed for water, like a tiny... the size of a sheet of paper that you put in your printer. Kilmeade Ready To Sacrifice Fox News Viewers Just To Own The Libs |

Brian Kilmeade of Fox & Friends continues to gaslight his audience with faux outrage at the Biden administration's vaccination push: "It's unbelievable how offensive this admin is getting with a pandemic that is clearly on the run... This admin is panicking and they are infiltrating our lives."

Sam Seder: Let's check in on Fox and Friends. We know that Tucker Carlson's doing pretty well with his, the vaccine will lead to eugenics. What's going on at Fox and Friends.
Brian Kilmeade: Let's talk about it and ask yourself if you have a problem with this: They're gonna knock on your door, they're going to demand that you take it, and they're going to give you a third shot. These are some of the things that are are around. That have been banging around in Washington about you and taking this vaccine. It's unbelievable how offensive this administration is getting with a pandemic that is clearly on the run. We're doing better than any other country, basically almost 60 to 70 percent of this country has taken two shots that are adults in America — yet this administration is panicking, and they're infiltrating our lives.
Emma Vigeland: We need that Perry Mason sound there.
Sam Seder: Yeah just to recap on what the argument is... The Biden administration's vaccine rollout has been so successful that the pandemic's on the run, as it were. Now of course, we have seen massive evidence that it is actually not on the run in a lot of Midwestern states. I don't know... Missouri, I think, in Oklahoma... We've got massive problems with the Delta variant. The more that it plays around with unvaccinated people, the better chance you have of a variant developing, and new variants we don't know are going to necessarily be dealt with by the vaccines as well as they are.
And then, because he still needs to develop some outrage, he talks about things that are being knocked around. Well the people knocking around the third vaccine is Pfizer. They know it's not dangerous, and they say it will double your your antibodies. And the government said, within moments after they made that attempt to apply for a FDA approval for a third vaccine, the government said we don't need it. There's no evidence we need it right now, we're going to focus on getting people vaccinated. And the idea that somebody's going to knock on your door and force you to take the vaccine exists only in Brian Kilmeade's producer's wish list for segments. Right now, they may knock on your door to see if they can offer you a vaccine, but no one's even mentioned the idea of a vaccine mandate in a serious way. Now iIm not saying that's a bad idea necessarily, but it's just not out there. It's just not gonna happen.
Emma Vigeland: I mean I don't know how much producer involvement there is there, it seemed like Kilmeade just got really excited like a little kid and he turns to the camera he couldn't even kind of complete one thought before moving on to the next one. He really thought he had something there. They're gonna come to your house, they're gonna you know do what they did to Britney Spears, do a whatever, strap her into a gurney, and strap you into a gurney and then just inject you with a third dose regardless of whether you want it or not. And I'm a liberal and I'm saying it so you know you can trust that it's gonna happen.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | fox news | brian kilmeade | fox and friends | covid | anti vaxxers | covid vaccine | fox news biden vaccine push

Pelosi DESPERATE To Stop Medicare For All |
(Y) | | |
Progressive activist and Medicare for All advocate Ady Barkan had the opportunity to ask Nancy Pelosi questions about plans for the near future of Medicare. Pelosi obfuscated what was at issue in terms of how different versions of expanded Medicare could be paid for, and seemed to confirm that she will not be working to lower the entry age. Medicare for more isn't on the table, and Medicare for All isn't anywhere near the discussion as long as Pelosi's running things. The Majority Report crew discuss.

Sam Seder: So let's play the Pelosi clip. So Ady Barkan, the Medicare for All activist, interviewed Nancy Pelosi. It was done for "Now This," so the interview is a little bit choppy. There are two things that are on the table right now in terms of Medicare for All, or Medicare, I should say. One has been dropping the age of eligibility to 60 or 55. Biden was in favor of dropping it to 60. Maybe you could do a buy-in at 55. The idea is to get as many people on board in that program as possible.
Emma Vigeland: And Bernie's backing this in the Senate. But not enough Democrats as of now.
Sam Seder: And reports were a couple of weeks ago that there was just not the support for that and instead they were focusing on expanding benefits for Medicare, current Medicare recipient. So dental, vision, etc, etc. Here is an exchange, which I think, A: Both confirms that reporting, that that's what they're planning to do, and B: Shows the absolute B.S. behind that decision.
Ady Barkan: Separately from strengthening Medicare, President Biden campaigned on a promise to lower the Medicare eligibility age to 60, which would cover another 23 million people. This expansion could be paid for easily in different ways. One of the options would be to empower Medicare to negotiate drug prices, just as the Department of Veterans Affairs does, which pays half as much for drugs as Medicare. I know that you pride yourself on representing your caucus, especially when there is broad consensus like this. So will you also bring forward the bill to lower the Medicare eligibility age?
Nancy Pelosi: Well the money that you discussed about giving the Secretary the ability to negotiate is the money that we were spending on hearing, vision, and dental. Now should there be more money, then we can take it to the next step. But the president is looking at the budget to see how that is. We have 400 billion dollars for home care for our seniors, for people with disabilities. A very top priority for us that we want to protect. If we're using the money for renegotiating prices for expanded benefits, let's get as much money out of that as possible. The way we're writing the laws, pharmaceutical companies cannot increase the price of prescription drugs higher than inflation. If they do, they have to give a rebate to the federal government of that amount of money.
Emma Vigeland: Well she gave away the game there, right? So, if the key phrase is: "If we're using the money for," — the money — she is focusing on a finite amount of money that they've already decided that they're going to stick with and not expand when it comes to addressing Medicare. And instead of lowering the eligibility age they're going to attempt to — and this is not even a guarantee that they do this — encompass dental, vision, and hearing, which is really important for seniors, of course, but they could do both. She's creating a false choice to bark in there, and it's a false choice that allows Democrats to weasel away in this conversation.
Sam Seder: Right, and it's all under this sort of rubric of "pay for" and "pay go" and this and that and it's not just to pay for, right, it's that Medicare itself has to pay for the enhanced benefits, Medicare savings, I should say has to pay for the the enhanced benefits. As opposed to any new money. And I think that's, at the end of the day, expanding it to more people is obviously better for those of us who want Medicare for All. Because the more people you get in the boat, the easier it is going to be to improve the seating on the boat, as it were. And this is just an example of the relentless agenda that Nancy Pelosi has to deny any growth in the popularity or the utility of Medicare, whether it's Medicare for All or Medicare for more, she desperately doesn't want that.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | medicare | medicare for all | nancy pelosi | medicare for all bernie sanders | medicare reform

Bush PR Flack Implies Distrust Of US Intelligence STARTED With Trump |

MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace doesn't seem to remember how little everyone trusted the NSA during the Bush years when the intelligence community lied about the existence of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. Sam Seder and the Majority Report crew discuss this.

Sam Seder: Speaking of other networks basically shoveling out their own sort of propaganda garbage, here is Nicole Wallace with a very interesting perspective on people's scrutiny or questioning of the U.S. intelligence agencies. Remember, she worked in the George W. Bush administration.
Emma Vigeland: And on the McCain campaign.
Sam Seder: And on the McCain campaign. This is... People may not recall this, but there was a a lot of different spying by U.S. intelligence agencies, a lot of different controversies over their spying. In fact people may not remember this too, because this goes all the way back 40 years ago, 50 years ago, where we had something called COINTELPRO, which was also a little bit of a problem in terms of spying. But here is Nicole Wallace.
Nicole Wallace: I believe his outreach to Russian intermediaries could have been the basis for NSA surveillance. While many questions still remain, what is clear is that Carlson's dangerous accusations have added to a growing chorus of distrust in our country's intelligence agencies — all started during the presidential transition by the disgraced ex-president. Joining our conversation, Frank Figluzzi, former assistant director for counterintelligence at the FBI, now the host of The Bureau podcast, an MSNBC national security analyst; and Andrew Weissman, former FBI general counsel, a former senior member of the Mueller Investigation, now an NYU law professor, and lucky for us, MSNBC legal analyst.
Frank Figluzzi, talk about who the NSA listens to and say if I wanted to interview — I don't know, if I had wanted to interview Ahmadinejad or Vladimir Putin myself, what would that sort of exposed me to in terms of anyone potentially hearing those efforts.
Frank Figluzzi: Yeah, NSA is perhaps the most secretive agency.
Sam Seder: Well there you go. The idea that... First off, I'm not surprised that the NSA may be monitoring Putin or people around Putin, and people calling in get swept up into that dragnet, that's not...
Matt Lech: America spies on our allies. We've been racing for this regularly.
Sam Seder: Right. And it would be consistent with a Trump appointee maybe in that chain of command to go and say to Tucker Carlson, "They have your correspondence with the Putin people to try and get an interview." That's conceivable. The real question would be are they soaking up other stuff of Tucker Carlson's? Who knows. But the idea that distrust of the the intelligence agencies is a function of Donald Trump is just a way to essentially say that the distrust that we should have for intelligence agencies because of their enormous record of abuse in this country that dates back since the advent of intelligence agencies is somehow a function of Donald Trump. I mean, this is...
Emma Vigeland: Well for her, for her specific project on MSNBC, that's exactly what it needs to be, right? Everything that results in distrust of government is because of Donald Trump. Government functioned perfectly fine before Donald Trump. Our intelligence agencies, when they are indiscriminately mass spying on people under the Obama administration, she largely has no problem with that. Definitely has no problem with that, so the the project of what she's trying to put out there is that actually mistrust in our institutions is really, really bad, and that's probably the worst thing that Donald Trump did to this country.
Matt Lech: Yeah I feel like that whole thing where it's like 17 different intelligence agencies say Donald Trump did this thing with Russia...podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | MSNBC | trump | tucker carlson | russiagate

How To Fix The World That Capitalism Has Broken |

Sam Seder: Your suite of non-reform reforms, as you refer them. What where... If you were going to construct something, I mean obviously it would look like the Green New Deal, on some measure, that we have seen. Let's just start with the idea of how do we get that passed. How do we implement these non-reform reforms, like major structural changes to our economy, when we've got a guy who literally shot the cap and trade bill with a shotgun. I've said in the past an AR-15, I guess it was a shotgun. It's been a long time since i saw that ad. And that's how Joe Manchin got to office. That was his big commercial, like literally firing at the stack of pages that were cap and trade. How do we get there politically?
Kate Aronoff: Yeah so, what I argue in the book and me and several co-authors sort of wrote about and co-authored a book "A Planet To Win" is that there has to be this virtuous cycle between policy and politics, right, so sort of reigning logic of the Democratic Party for a long time was that if you give people stuff that makes their lives better they're probably more likely to vote for you. That fell out of fashion for some of the reasons we talked about earlier in the 1970s and 1980s, but that is you know a fairly standard logic that's not a magic bullet, but climate policy probably has to follow something like that. So for many, many years, climate policy has been talked about like the carbon tax, like these other market-driven tweaks as something which can be fit in sort of around the edges. It's the sort of realm of technocrats, and something that only can be dealt with basically in a boardroom, or by very skilled people who are taking a serious look at this problem. And we just know that the problem is way too big to fit around the edges, right. Somebody's going to know, and we have a fossil-fuel industry with a PR arm, which is very ready to call out anything called climate policy, so what i argue is that you know you have to bring that to the people and this is what folks who are pushing for a Green New Deal really center on, is that climate policy has to make a credible threat to make people's lives better, right. And so i look at policies like a federal job guarantee, which can do a lot of this very climate necessary work that the private sector is in prioritizing and also would have a massive impact on people's lives right, taking away involuntary unemployment, giving people a job that is dignified that pays them a living wage and that is improving their own communities with work that is decided by folks from their communities. These sorts of things, I think, have to start the cycle, to put it very bluntly, re-elect Democrats for a long time to come. It's not enough to just have a sort of one-off climate policy passed and to cede over to Republican rule, which will strike it down in the courts maybe before an election happens. Which will pass new laws or repeal them or whatever. What we saw in the New Deal and have seen you know throughout U.S history that it takes sort of sustained role by in our case now the Democratic Party and unfortunately, no real warm feelings toward the party apparatus but practically when we have one of two major parties that is not interested in climate violence.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | climate change | green new deal | capitalism

What Killed The "Middle Class"? |
(Y) | | |
What killed the "middle class" and who does that term really apply to? Foundation Professor of American Studies at the University of Kansas David Roediger breaks down the history of the term "middle class" and who politicians were referring to when they said it in speeches. In this segment, we find out if "middle class" means anyone other than white people.

"Or at least politicians didn’t claim they did.
“Through the 19th century, almost nobody self-consciously thought about themselves as middle class,” said David Roediger, the Foundation Professor of American Studies at the University of Kansas. “The mass embrace of the term is kind of a Cold War product. And it didn’t really enter U.S. presidential politics until the 1990s.”
His latest book, “The Sinking Middle Class: A Political History,” refutes the concept that the United States is a middle-class nation while tracing the history of how the designation became a vote-pandering issue for rival parties. Published by OR Books on Oct. 8, advance copies are currently available.
“We’re so used to political campaigns featuring appeals to the middle class — and to hearing most people think of themselves as such — that we don’t imagine these things have a history,” he said.
“But where did this constant bipartisan outcry to save the ‘middle class’ come from? When did it happen? That’s what got me interested in writing the book.”"

DEBUNKING 2nd Amendment Myths |

"Years before protesters across the world took to the streets in defense of an unarmed George Floyd’s right to life while in the custody of Minneapolis police, the 2016 police shooting of fellow Minnesotan Philando Castile highlighted the callousness of another American double-standard. While each was a Black man killed by police whose death was filmed in progress for the world to watch in horror, Castile’s shooting, which took place seconds after he alerted Officer Jeronimo Yanez of the presence of his licensed firearm, begged a question central to one of the most hotly debated amendments to the Constitution: Don’t Black people have Second Amendment rights?
This is the question that set historian and Emory University’s Charles Howard Candler Professor of African American Studies Carol Anderson on the path to her latest book, The Second: Race and Guns in a Fatally Unequal America. While making neither a pro- nor an anti-gun argument, as the bestselling author of White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Nation’s Divide passionately explains during this week’s episode of The Root Presents: It’s Lit!, the Second Amendment is yet another aspect of structural inequality encoded into the policies of the United States; one intended to exclude Black people in particular."

Laura Ingraham: Cori Bush Isn't Traditionally American Like Confederate Statues Are |
(Y) | | |
Laura Ingraham is once again on one as she cherry picks some things that are not only anti-American on this year's July 4th, according to her, but are also proof that no one had any problem with the Confederate flag or Confederate statues in this country. Anti-Confederacy moves were just an opening so that the Left could quote one woman in the "New York Times" as saying she didn't hang her American flag this year, allow a "Washington Post" columnist to opine that he doesn't like the Statue of Liberty, and worst of all, let Vanessa Williams sing the Black national anthem on PBS. Ingraham also took issue with Cori Bush, of course, who tweeted that the July 4th holiday was a celebration of white people's freedom. Ingraham's Fox News colleague Tucker Carlson then proceeded to say that Bush was "too stupid" to hold a real job.

Sam Seder: Laura Ingraham? This is all part of a whole. It's almost the same clip, over and over again, in some respects. Because this is when they talk about critical race theory, what they're really talking about is even the slightest bit of reckoning with the racism which was foundational to this country. And here's Laura Ingraham. She is super mad, still, about these Confederate statues.
Laura Ingraham: Remember when we told you that it was not just the American of a Confederate flag that they objected to last year? It wasn't just the Confederate monuments that they objected to. Well, we told you that it was all a Trojan horse for what they really wanted to take down: America herself. Starting with our national flag. There was this heartwarming news story by "New York Times" reporter Sarah Maslin Nir. "Maryneily Rodriguez... said that she once regularly flew the flag at her home in Freeport... taking it down only in winter for safekeeping. But about three years ago when spring came, Ms. Rodriguez, who is Black and a Democrat left the flag in storage. 'It hasn't come out, since it felt like it didn't belong to me anymore,' she said."
And "Washington Post" Columnist, if that's what you call him, Philip Kennicott celebrated July 4th by the attacking Lady Liberty. Why not? i
"It is ambiguous and ambivalent... meaningless or foreign... a symbol of hypocrisy or unfulfilled promises..."
Then PBS, they just oozed national unity, when during the national fireworks display Vanessa Williams sang the Black national anthem.
Vanessa Williams: I dedicate this to my ancestors, to our new federal holiday, Juneteenth. Lift every voice...
Laura Ingraham: A beautiful woman and a beautiful voice, but come on. This was never about some old monument to the Confederacy. It wasn't about the flag, the Confederate flag. It's about the ultimate hatred of the Left of all things traditionally American.
Emma Vigeland: It's interesting that she has a a picture of Cori Bush up there, and well I guess Chris Hayes...
Sam Seder: ...smoke salmon socialist that guy.
Emma Vigeland: Yes, obviously, but not traditionally American.
Brendan Finn: Traditionally American things like the Confederacy, which broke off and tried to create a second country. Distinct from America.
Sam Seder: Revolution. What could be more American than that? Rebellion?
Emma Vigeland: Beautiful woman, beautiful song, but...
Sam Seder: Come on, she's not white, so can she really be singing on fourth of July?
Emma Vigeland: I would imagine that in whatever event that they were celebrating the 4th of July that they also sung the regular national anthem, they just did the Black national anthem in addition, and Laura Ingraham's producers picked that out as a like as a part of like for four-part you know speed round where they did PBS, Cori bush, Vanessa Williams. It's just bizarre.
Sam Seder: And of course they probably did not introduce it as the Black national anthem. I would imagine we would have heard that.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | laura ingraham | tucker carlson | fox news | racism | white nationalism

What's Stopping A Progressive Takeover Of Congress? |

Emma Vigeland: What has to give for somebody like Ocasio-Cortez and newer Justice Democrats, Brand New Congress folks to take power there, because despite the significance of this race in terms of looking at the American Left, there's a lot of obstacles that are still in the way of kind of a Progressive takeover in Congress.
David Freedlander: Yeah, obviously the biggest one is is to sort of win seats, and the people, some of the people, that were behind Ocasio-Cortez's run, this group called Justice Democrats who are often sort of called the Tea Party of the Left — but I think they're actually a lot savvier than that, because they only tend to run in these safe urban districts that are very diverse, and they're represented by kind of older, mostly white but certainly moderate lawmakers. And they focused on those, thinking that if you just can win a handful of those you can kind of remake the Congress. And they've certainly done that I mean now the Justice Dems i think they're called, it's sort of like The Squad writ large, but they're a decently sized political force. There's maybe nine or so of them which isn't bad in a 215 person body, and so that's the first thing.
I think that the kind of way in which American politics is set up right now and probably for the future is going to limit their power when it comes to negotiating bills and leverage and all this stuff, just because it my read on it, is it always seems like the moderates have this advantage where you can't... like the left wing of the party is not going to walk away from half a loaf if it means getting half of the population Medicare, if it means half of an infrastructure bill, if it means like half of a child allowance kind of thing. And so they kind of don't have leverage in that sense. What they do have leverage in and what makes Ocasio-Cortez so effective, particularly for someone who is just a second-term lawmaker, is that you control this sort of national media spotlight. And they do control the media narrative, you know. And they can... I mean, Ocasio-Cortez in her first year in office was on like "RuPaul's Drag Race" right, so they're the ones who could kind of like, I think, in general, sort of frame and shape the debate, even if they don't have a lot of influence on how the actual sausage then gets made.
Emma Vigeland: Because then when the sausage gets made, you have Hakeem Jeffries, who has taken over Crowley's old leadership position, who is starting a Super PAC, to combat the Justice Democrats, there is the old guard. Where of course it's obviously Steny Hoyer, Pelosi — they're older in age and also part of the old guard, but then you have ideological equivalents like Hakeem Jeffries coming up who are going to take that mantle whenever Pelosi or Hoyer retire. How do you combat that?
David Freedlander: I think that's really difficult because one thing we've seen is that communities of color — we'll get in as we talk about the mayor's race in here in New York, perhaps — have not been as amenable to that kind of messaging from the Justice Dems, from some of the left-leaning aspects of the party. And we're seeing this kind of divide where whiter but still diverse neighborhoods in districts end up electing very left-leaning lawmakers and then mostly communities of color end up electing mostly moderate lawmakers. And so I think something kind of will have to crack that apart, and it's hard to see precisely what that is right now.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | the squad | AOC | alexandria ocasio-cortez

Andrew Callaghan: Trying to think... yeah. I travel every day and I guess I got the whole Pacific Time PST EST mixed up. I don't know you guys live on the East Coast. I thought, 1pm, I woke up at 12:30, and I was like i'm doing a great job for myself. I looked at the email i was like... So thanks for giving me a second chance.
Sam Seder: Explain to people what you do.
Andrew Callaghan: I travel around the country either in an RV or in a van with my two best friends and get into weird [ __ ] and interview different kinds of people and then put my own kind of stylized editing thing on it. I think so is that accurate?
Sam Seder: Yeah, let's watch the clip and see if it is accurate.
Man on the street: They assassinated Kobe Bryant. How many people know that? They assassinated Kobe Bryant, they tried to kill Tiger Woods in that car accident recently.
Andrew Callaghan: Why?
Man: The Kobe Bryant deal is he had dirt on the Clintons. I love Black people. I love everybody. We're all God's children.
Andrew Callaghan: Isn't this a white lives matter rally?
Man: Uh, well i'll tell you what this whole thing with the virus with BLM with Antifa, that was to hurt President Trump, and the reason that president trump wasn't back by January 20th, the reason he hasn't been back yet, is because he didn't want to have civil war. I think you know where i was on January 6th.
Andrew Callaghan: Where were you?
Man: I think you know where i was on January 6. Trump is still in control of our country.
Andrew Callaghan: Where'd you get those shoes from? Those are pretty fresh.
Man: Those are just Champions. Being a champion for the Lord, that's it.
Andrew Callaghan: Amen, good for you.
Second man: See, there's nothing anti-white supremacist about that. That's not a white supremacist message.
Man: Sometimes the truth hurts.
Andrew Callaghan: What's the most painful piece of truth that's hurt you?
Man: A guy stealing my home. He falsified a trustee siege to himself with seven false representations on it and stole my home. His name's Bill Joyner, he lives in Shady Canyon, he destroyed my family, destroyed my 25-year business, separated and devastated my family, so that answers your question.
Andrew Callaghan: This dude sounds like he sucks.
Man: I don't think he's a good guy, in my opinion he's a bad guy and he's hurt a lot of people. But then again, look what the Democrats are doing to others. The deep state is trying to control the people. They control the banking; they control the countries; they control the Vatican; and i care about our country. I want people to know what's going on. Andrew Callaghan: What's going on is a white lives matter rally.
Man: Is that what's going on? Oh okay. I had no idea what was going on. I heard that there was a BLM thing going on and with that usually comes Antifa. I'm kind of Anti-antifa.
Sam Seder: I could watch this for a very extended period of time but that is a pretty good representation.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | andrew callaghan | andrew callaghan channel 5 | andrew callaghan interview

Police Unions Have A Gross, Outsized Influence On Local Politics |
(Y) | | |
Emma Vigeland, @Matt Binder , and Brandon Sutton field a call to the Majority Report from a listener concerned about police unions and their effect on local politics. The caller was involved in an election in Fort Worth, Texas, and the local Police Officers Association sent out mailers filled with "copaganda" to suppress turnout and alter the results of a mayoral race. The caller describes the information is racist, misleading crime statistics and the terrible policies left in place when POAs are able to choose elected officials.

CALLER: I want to talk about the outsized and really gross influence that Police Officer Associations have on local politics. I was deeply embroiled in a voter outreach for the local election in Fort Worth, Texas. We managed to help get two progressive candidates elected to city council, but boy, we got on the POA's radar, and they were sending out all sorts of B.S. mailers and propaganda to all the different communities that we were in. And trying to get out, and activate folks.
Fort Worth has got a really terrible history of voter turnout, like a lot of places in the U.S. Voter turnout was like 3% in 2019, but the work that the organization that I was a part of and several other groups, we managed to get a 14.5% voter turnout in this last election, and very nearly elected the first female Black mayor of Fort Worth in Fort Worth history. But the racist runoff election rules that are common in the South gave the moneyed interests and the Police Officers Association plenty of opportunity to get all those white votes out against the candidate of color off of the mayor. So it was really uplifting to be a part of groups doing some really good direct work. Electoralism's got its limits but every voice that we get onto city council is a step towards being able to make substantial structural changes to the way things are done.podcast | sam seder | breaking news | news today | headline news | livestream | seder news | tyt | the young turks | tyt news | young turks | tyt network | progressive news | majority report | mr live | leftists | u.s. elections | police union | emma vigeland | Police Officer Associations
