Israeli policy towards Gaza with ILAN PAPPÉ and SHIR HEVER |
(Y) | Ilan Pappé |
Annotation
The Great March of Return in Gaza has been a challenge for the Israeli security institutions. Although over 250 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces, the Israeli government's plan to invade the Gaza Strip was foiled because of internal divisions between the senior officers and populist politicians. The divisions have exposed that the Israeli military is undergoing a crisis of discipline, with soldiers disobeying orders and not being punished by their officers. This has created an opportunity for an effective nonviolent resistance by Palestinian groups, which has made some important achievements in the recent months.

Myths from the History of Zionism and Settler Colonialism in Palestine / Ilan Pappé |
(Y) | Ilan Pappé |
Izraelský historik Ilan Pappé 20. března přednášel na FF UK na pozvání filozofického spolku Praxis. Přednáška vycházela z jeho nejnovější knihy Deset mýtů o Izreali (Ten Myths about Israel). Pappé se ve svých pracích zabývá převážně moderním Blízkým východem a dějinami Izraele a Palestiny, ale i vztahem mezi mocí
a věděním, kritickou analýzou diskursu či multikulturalismem.
Přednáška a následná diskuse proběhly v angličtině.
The Philosophical Society Praxis at the Faculty of Arts at the Charles University in Prague organized a lecture with the Israeli New Historian Ilan Pappé based on his latest book Ten Myths about Israel. In his works Pappé mainly focuses on modern Middle East and the history of Israel and Palestine, but also with the relationship between power and knowledge, critical discourse analysis or multiculturalism. In the first part of the lecture Pappé discusses the colonial nature of Zionism and their clear plan for ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948. In the second part the Israeli historian speaks about selected Zionist myths starting with the absurdity of a secular colonial movement using a religious myth about God promising the land of Palestine to the Jewish people 2000 years ago as creation of a legal right for the Zionists to ethnically cleanse and colonize Palestine in the 20th century continuing until this day. Followed by the Zionist myth about Palestine as "land without people for people without land", or the mythology about the "Peace Process" and the Two-State Solution to the apartheid nature of the Israeli democracy.
The evening was hosted by the Czech historian Matěj Spurný from the Charles University Institute of Economic and Social History.

Ilan Pappé / Mojmír Kallus - Israel - Debating club |
(Y) | Ilan Pappé |
Ilan Pappé is a professor of History and Political Science teaching at the University of Exeter in Great Britain, and a director of European Center for the Palestinian Studies. Professor Pappé will debate Mojmir Kallus who is a president of the International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem in Prague, known as ICEJ. A christian Zionist Kallus and a Jewish anti-Zionist Pappé will discuss moral and historical issues connected to the creation and existance of the Israeli state. This will also include a question of democracy in the Jewish state, which Ilan Pappe sees as an oxymoron. "You cannot have an apartheid, decades of a military occupation, discriminatory laws, policy of ongoing ethnic cleansing and call yourself a democracy," says the Izraeli historian. Our guests will examine the past and possible future.Ilan Pappé | Mojmír Kallus | ICEJ | Zionist | Jewish | demokracy | apartheid | military occupation | discriminatory laws | ethnic cleansing | State terror | Israel (Country)
